What Is Artichoke and How Does It Work?

Artichoke suggested uses include for appetite loss, and liver and gallbladder problems.

Artichoke is possibly effective for indigestion (dyspepsia) and high levels of fats in the blood (hyperlipidemia).

Artichoke is available under the following different brand and other names: Cynara scolymus, and cynarin.

Dosages of Artichoke

Suggested Dosing

  • 500 mg/day dry extract, no more than 6 g/day

Dosage Considerations – Should be Given as Follows:

Indigestion (Dyspepsia)

  • 320-640 mg artichoke leaf extract orally three times daily

Hyperlipidemia

  • 320-640 mg artichoke leaf extract orally three times daily

What Are Side Effects Associated with Using Artichoke?

Side effects of ammonium chloride include:

  • Intestinal gas
  • Allergic reactions (especially in those who are allergic to plants such as marigolds, daisies, and other similar herbs)

Warnings

  • This medication contains artichoke. Do not take Cynara scolymus or cynarin if you are allergic to artichoke or any ingredients contained in this drug.
  • Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
