BETTINA BERNSTEIN, D.O.
Dr. Bettina Bernstein, D.O. is currently an assistant professor of psychiatry at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and a clinical faculty member at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She combines her clinical child and adolescent psychiatry practice with an ongoing interest in school consultation. She has served as chairperson for the Regional Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Schools Committee.
Dr. Bettina Bernstein is a Board Certified Psychiatrist in Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry. She is a graduate of Trinity College with a B.S. in Biochemistry. She is a graduate of the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, Des Moines, Iowa with a D.O. degree (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine). She served with distinction as Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Public Health Service.
Dr. Bettina Bernstein completed her internship, residency and fellowship training in adult, child and adolescent psychiatry at Hahnemann University Hospital (Drexel College of Medicine) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was selected by the U.S. Public Health Service to receive additional training in urban and social medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City.
In college, Dr. Bernstein was a teaching assistant in the Department of Child Psychology. During medical school, she provided services to the Des Moines Ballet Company and taught medical students as a teaching assistant in the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. During fellowship, she was a lecturer in the Psychopathology Course for medical students and supervised graduate students in the Division of Creative Art Therapy. While serving with the U.S. Public Health Service, she lectured on suicide prevention, adolescent substance abuse, fetal alcohol syndrome and family psychiatry throughout the Pacific Northwest. In 1995, she received the "Outstanding Resident Teacher of the Year" award. She has been active with the Disaster Mental Health component of the American Red Cross since 2002.
Dr. Bernstein's special interests include creative arts therapy, selective mutism, fetal alcohol syndrome, learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorder, developmental trauma disorder, pediatric bipolar disorder and alternative/complementary therapeutic approaches.
