Carolyn O'Neil, MS, RD, is a journalist who knows about food. And with over 20 years of study and television reporting on food, nutrition, and cuisine, O'Neil has provided consumers with helpful information and insight on all aspects of healthy living.
O'Neil, who has a master's degree in nutrition, joined CNN in 1982 where she founded and developed the network's food and nutrition beat. She served as executive producer and senior correspondent for CNN's award-winning On The Menu program. On The Menu was consistently one of the highest rated weekend programs on CNN. O'Neil was also the anchor and senior correspondent for CNN Travel Now, hosting programs on location from the hills of Tuscany to the streets of Saigon.
In 1995, O'Neil won two James Beard Awards, which spotlight the best in television food journalism, and in 1998 was inducted into the James Beard Who's Who in Food and Beverage.
Other awards include accolades for journalistic excellence from the American Heart Association, the American Dietetic Association, and the National Restaurant Association.
In 1999, she was named Best TV Food Journalist during the World Cookbook Fair in Versailles, France.
Her latest creation is the book, The Dish on Eating Healthy and Being Fabulous! with co-author Densie Webb, PhD, RD. USA Today chose The Dish as one of the top 7 slimming books for 2005, and it won the "Best Health and Nutrition Book in the World" at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Sweden.
O'Neil is the food and nutrition editor with fitness editor Bob Greene of Nubella "N" Magazine. She contributes articles on healthy dining out to FoodFit.com, Cooking Smart magazine, and Flavors magazine. Other written work on nutrition includes feature articles for Cooking Light, Gourmet, and Men's Health magazines. She is frequently quoted as a nutrition expert in national publications including Newsweek, USA Today, Shape, Woman's Day, Better Homes & Gardens, Parade, InStyle, Parents and Marie Claire.
Her many television appearances include guest spots on CNN, NBC's Weekend Today, Fox & Friends, Turner South's Home Plate with Marvin Woods, and the Food Network's Good Eats with Alton Brown. O'Neil hosted the nationally televised PBS series Cook Off America with co-host Chef Marcel Desaulniers.
O'Neil, who lives in Atlanta, works independently as a writer, speaker, media consultant, spokeswoman, and television professional specializing in food, nutrition, and cuisine. She is a nutrition spokewoman for Dannon yogurt, Oroweat Bread, and the National Restaurant Association's "Ask Us" program on healthy dining out. She has been the national spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association/Con Agra Foods Foundation Home Food Safety Campaign and has served as spokeswoman for clients such as Quaker, Tropicana, The Florida Department of Citrus, The California Almond Board, Panera Bread, Centrum, and Fleischmann's.
O'Neil is also an accomplished public speaker, presenting key notes and moderating panels on food and nutrition for consumer, industry, government, academic, and health care groups.
