MICHAEL C. FISHBEIN, MD

Dr. Fishbein received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Illinois. He completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Harbor General Hospital/UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Fishbein had additional specialized training in cardiovascular pathology at the National Heart and Lung Institute of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, but the majority of his clinical work, research and teaching, is in the subspecialty area of cardiovascular diseases.

Dr. Fishbein's first faculty and hospital positions were in Boston, Massachusetts where he was assistant professor of pathology at the Harvard Medical School and associate pathologist at the Peter Bent Brigham hospital. While in Boston he was also a consultant at the Beth Israel Hospital and West Roxbury Veterans Administration hospital and taught biotechnology oriented medical students at MIT.

Dr Fishbein has been in Los Angeles for the past 22 years. For 19 years he was at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he was head of the autopsy service and cardiovascular pathology. Because of his affiliations and collaborations with academic cardiologists he rose though the ranks to his current academic titles of professor of in both the departments of pathology and medicine at UCLA. In 1997, Dr. Fishbein assumed an endowed research position at the UCLA Medical Center where he is the Piansky Scholar of Anatomy Research, and head of the autopsy service, and where he is actively involved in clinical, teaching, and research activities focused on cardiovascular and autopsy pathology.

Dr. Fishbein serves on a number of editorial boards and has published numerous peer-reviewed research articles as well as review articles and book chapters. He is an active member of medical societies of pathology and cardiology.
