What Are Side Effects Associated with Using Brimonidine and Timolol Ophthalmic?
Common side effects of Brimonidine and Timolol Ophthalmic include:
- drowsiness, tired feeling.
- mild itching, redness, or irritation of the eyes; or
- mild stinging or burning when using the eye drops.
Serious side effects of Brimonidine and Timolol Ophthalmic include:
- hives;
- difficult breathing;
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
- slow or uneven heart rate.
- pounding heartbeats or fluttering in the chest.
- shallow breathing, light-headedness;
- severe swelling, redness, or discomfort in or around the eye.
- eye pain or increased watering; or
- numbness or tingly feeling in your hands or feet.
Rare side effects of Brimonidine and Timolol Ophthalmic include:
- none
Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:
- Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors.
- Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights.
- Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheartedness, or passing out.

What Are Dosages of Brimonidine and Timolol Ophthalmic?
Adult and pediatric
Ophthalmic solution
- (5 mg/2 mg)/ mL (0.5%/0.2%)
Elevated intraocular pressure:
Adult dosage
- Ophthalmic: Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) twice daily.
Pediatric dosage
- Children Above 2 years: Ophthalmic: Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) twice daily

- a history of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); or
- a serious heart condition such as "AV block," severe heart failure, or slow heartbeats that have caused you to faint.

Cautions
- You should not use brimonidine and timolol Ophthalmic if you have a history of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or a serious heart condition such as "AV block," severe heart failure, or slow heartbeats that have caused you to faint.
- Brimonidine and timolol Ophthalmic should not be given to a child younger than 2 years old.
- This medication may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.
- Do not use other eye medications unless your doctor tells you to.
Pregnancy and Lactation
- It is not known whether brimonidine and timolol Ophthalmic will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication.
- Lactation
- Timolol Ophthalmic can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not breastfeed while using this medicine.
