Cadexomer Iodine

Cadexomer iodine is an over-the-counter (OTC) product used for cleaning wet ulcers and wounds and as an antiseptic for minor cuts, scrapes, and burns.

Cadexomer iodine is available under the following different brand names: Iodosorb.

Dosage Forms and Strengths

Oral Rinse

• 0.15%

Dosage Considerations – Should be Given as Follows:

Gel

• 0.9% iodine

Ointment

• 4.7%

Dosage Considerations – Should be Given as Follows:

Cleaning Wet Ulcers and wounds

• Spread 1/8-1/4 inch to dry sterile gauze; apply gauze on wound
• No more than 50 g per application; no more than 150 g/week
• Change 3 times/week or when color turns to yellow/gray

Antiseptic for Minor Cuts, Scrapes, Burns

• Apply small amount to affected area once daily to once every 8 hours

Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients.

Common side effects of Cadexomer Iodine include:

• Transient slight/moderate pain
• Redness or swelling at application site

Warnings

This medication contains cadexomer iodine. Do not take Iodosorb if you are allergic to cadexomer iodine or any ingredients contained in this drug.

Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.

Contraindications

• Iodine sensitivity
• Hashimoto's thyroiditis, history of Graves' disease or nontoxic goiter
• Pregnancy, lactation
• Dry wounds
• Breastfeeding
