Carbamide Peroxide Oral

Carbamide peroxide oral is an over-the-counter (OTC) product used for canker sores or gum irritation and oral hygiene.

Carbamide peroxide oral is available under the following different brand names: Cankaid, Gly-Oxide, and Orajel Perioseptic.

Dosages of Carbamide Peroxide Oral:

Oral Solution/Liquid

• 10%
• 15%
• 20%

Dosage Considerations – Should be Given as Follows:

Canker Sores or Gum Irritation

• Adults and children over 2 years
• Apply several drops to the affected area, expectorate after 2-3 minutes, OR
• Place 10 drops on the tongue, mix with saliva, swish in mouth for several minutes, then spit out
• May repeat up to 4 times/day

Oral Hygiene

• Adults and children over 2 years
• Liquid 15%: Everyday use; apply to a toothbrush, cover with toothpaste, brush and spit out

• Carbamide peroxide has no listed mild interactions with other drugs.

Warnings

• This medication contains carbamide peroxide oral. Do not take Cankaid, Gly-Oxide, or Orajel Perioseptic if you are allergic to carbamide peroxide oral or any ingredients contained in this drug.

Pregnancy and Lactation

• Use carbamide peroxide oral with caution during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Animal studies show risk and human studies are not available or neither animal nor human studies were done.
• Carbamide peroxide oral is not secreted into breast milk.
• Pregnant or breastfeeding patients should seek the advice of a health professional before using over-the-counter (OTC) drugs.
