Common side effects of Cromolyn Sodium Inhalation Aerosol include:
- sneezing,
- stuffy nose,
- cough, and
- mild wheezing
Serious side effects of Cromolyn Sodium Inhalation Aerosol include:
- hives,
- difficulty breathing,
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat,
- worsening asthma symptoms,
- coughing,
- wheezing,
- choking, and
- other breathing problems after using the medicine
Rare side effects of Cromolyn Sodium Inhalation Aerosol include:
- none
Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:
- Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
- Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
- Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheartedness, or passing out.

What Are the Dosages of Cromolyn Sodium Inhalation Aerosol?
Adult and pediatric dosage
Nebulization solution
- 10 mg/ml (2 ml/vial)
Asthma
Adult dosage
- 20 mg inhaled via nebulization four times daily; may decrease to two times daily /three times daily once stabilized
Pediatric dosage
- Children below 2 years: safety and efficacy not established
- Children above 2 years: 20 mg inhaled via nebulization four times daily; may decrease to two times daily /three times daily once stabilized
- Bronchospasm prophylaxis (exercise-induced or allergen)
Adult dosage
- Administer 20 mg as a single dose 10-15 min prior to exercise or allergen exposure but no longer than 1 hour
Pediatric dosage
- Below 2 years: Safety and efficacy not established
- Children 2 years: Administer 20 mg as a single dose 10-15 min prior to exercise or allergen exposure but no longer than 1 hour

Cautions
- Cromolyn sodium is not a rescue medicine. It will not work fast enough to treat an asthma attack. Use only a fast-acting inhalation medicine for an asthma attack. Tell your doctor if it seems like your asthma medications don't work as well.
- Do not mix cromolyn Sodium Inhalation with other medicines in your nebulizer.
- Avoid spraying the inhaler into your face or getting the medication in your eyes.
- Cromolyn Sodium Inhalation is not approved for use by anyone younger than 2 years old.
Pregnancy and Lactation
- Cromolyn Sodium Inhalation is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medicine.
Lactation
- It is not known whether cromolyn Sodium Inhalation passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding a baby.
