Crotamiton

Crotamiton is a prescription medication used to treat the symptoms of scabies and pruritus.

Common side effects of Crotamiton include:

• mild itching, and
• new rash

Serious side effects of Crotamiton include:

• hives,
• difficulty breathing,
• swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and
• severe burning, stinging, or irritation after using this medicine

Rare side effects of Crotamiton include:

• none 

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

• Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
• Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
• Serious heart symptoms include fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out.

Adult and pediatric dosage

Cream/lotion

• 10 %

Scabies

Adult and pediatric dosage

• Topical: Wash thoroughly and scrub away loose scales, then dry; apply a thin layer and massage drug onto the skin of the entire body from neck to toes; repeat in 24 hours; bath 48 hours after final application to cleanse the body; may repeat the treatment after 7-10 days if live mites present

Pruritus

Adult dosage

• Massage into affected areas until the medication is completely absorbed; repeat as needed
