Custirsen

Custirsen is a drug in clinical trials used to treat prostate cancer and advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer.

The addition of custirsen to first-line docetaxel and prednisone was reasonably well-tolerated, but overall survival was not significantly longer for patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer treated with this combination, compared with patients treated with docetaxel and prednisone alone.

Custirsen is available under the following different brands and other names: custirsen sodium, OGX-011, and CC-8490.

Dosages of Custirsen:

• Phase I trials determined the recommended dose of custirsen was 640 mg, with a maximum decrease of clusterin blood plasma occurring at this dose.

Side effects of custirsen include:

• Low blood platelets (thrombocytopenia)
• Anemia
• Low white blood cells (leukopenia)
• Fever
• Fatigue
• Chills
• Hair loss
• Loss of appetite
• Side effects of custirsen in combined treatment with docetaxel:
• Shortness of breath
• Fluid buildup around the lungs
• Low white blood cells (neutropenia)
• Fatigue
• Inflammation of mucus membranes in the digestive tract
