Prolia

Horrible! I had 3 psychotic breaks after my last shot. I became paranoid, depressed, anxious and suicidal. Has this happened to anyone else? My therapist has several other patients that this has happened to.

I only had 1 Prolia injection which was painful, but tolerable. After a few months I had 2 utis 2 months apart. I have had uti in the past, but not so close in time. I developed mouth sores that took weeks to go away and then returned. At the end of 6 months, I developed back pain and Sciatica. This required me to walk with a cane until a painkiller and physical therapy worked. I do have a condition that could cause Sciatica, however I can’t determine if it is a coincidence or the Prolia aggravated it. I decided that given my negative symptoms, unfortunately, this drug is not appropriate for me. All of the above, after only 1 injection made me fearful of what could happen with more. I had to start Fosamax because Prolia has a kickback effect when stopped. I am very active, but stopped skiing last year.

I am 76 and have been taking Prolia for about 9 years. My scans have shown continued improvement. I have had no dental problems at all. I am active and intend to stay that way.

I took this drug March 8 2024 .Next day felt like I was hit by a mack truck.2 days later scratchy throat, temp of 100.7, feeling really sick, by Easter dry cough with occasional pink tinged sputum and jaw pains, reported to pcp and asked to be given decadron or solumedrol and Albuterol nebulizer, his response was you only need a pulmocare you have bronchitis By May still coughing , requested a CT scan refused the suggestion, July still coughing , asked for at least an xray ordered one , in the meantime had episodes of afib, stress test and ekg done.Latter part of July getting and feeling sicker, labs done high cholesterol.Went to see pcp about complaints, not impressed he said he gave it to 20 people and none reacted, ergo I do not have a reaction.This pissed me off I am a retired heart transplant RN 50 years of ICU work.Aug 8 cough up blood to ER.First medication given Decadron IV and albuterol, medications CT scan done now with a nodule in my left lung.8 days in the hospital with high dose of steroid and antibiotics, tapering dose of steroid at home post discharge PET scan to be done.No way will I ever take this bloody medicine again

I just had injection #18, that means I have been on Prolia for 9 years. I have had no side effects and in fact my osteoporosis numbers have improved. I am 71 years old and very active, and hope to continue to be active for many more years.

I am adding to my review.I had my dose March 8 of thus year.This is August and still coughing and with an addional pain in my rib cage.This biologic stays in our system for 155 days+.Elimination is by reticuloendothelial system.I was stupid to agree to take this bloody medicine.NO MORE.

I started Prolia a few years ago. After about three shots I started having dental problems. I did not make any connection at all. I had to stop the Prolia because I needed four teeth removed within 6 months after trying root canals that failed and then had two dental implants. My doctor felt it was important to start the medication again once the surgeries were done and completely healed. I've had two in the past 6 months and suddenly now another tooth needs to be pulled and an implant put in along with the other side of my mouth (top jaw) in pain. I'm petrified that I'm going to lose all of my teeth not to mention so far this has cost me $25,000. Has anyone started a law suit against this manufacturer? If so, I want in.

I only had one shot. But I needed a tooth extraction soon after that and was told by various doctors to wait 2 months, 3 months or 6 months after shot. But my tooth was infected and I don't do well on antibiotics. I finally had it pulled after 4 months by an oral surgeon who knew about Prolia. I never got another shot. Now over 2 years later I need another tooth extracted. Be very aware of the problems with dental work with this drug. But this is the most important thing - this drug works by keeping the old bone cells from sloughing off your bones making it look like you have denser bones on your scans. If you stop this drug all those old bone cells slough off making your bones weaker than before and more susceptible for fracture. That's why they tell you that you have to take it forever. No thanks. One and done.

I was diagnosed Osteonecrosis of the Jaw in 2017 due to an ingredient in Prolia. I had bone removed in my upper left jaw. Every tooth that has to be removed has to be done by an oral surgeon. My teeth have deteriorated every year since then, I have to go to the dentist ever 3 months. This year, 2024, i had to have 3 teeth removed that had broken off at the gumline. My oral surgeon took xrays and it looked like the bone structure was good enough to implant 2 teeth which were in the front of my mouth. Both implants failed and we are not sure now what will happen. I just want everyone to know that this is a very real side effect. I have spent thousands of dollars to try to save my teeth which has failed. The pain I have had is immeasurable. I now do not have a front upper and front lower tooth.

I have written a review already, I forgot to mention , I developed a very high fever plus what I already wrote.I do not care about the rebound effect.WIll not take this poison.

I was diagnosed with Medicine Induced Osteonecrosis of the Jaw after taking Prolia for 2 years. I lost my lower jaw, all of my lower teeth and my fibula which was used to construct a new jaw. It has been 7 months since my surgery. I still have no feeling in my chin area and I continue to have swelling in my jaw, neck and leg. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DRUG!

I received prolia March 8 2024.This is April 1 and still sick. Day after the shot woke up with pain in the muscles and bones. Next day my throat itching, then started a dry cough then shortness of breath, then a high fever.When I called my pcp he said just caught a " bug" .Then a full bronchitis with pink tinged phlegm. Now with diarrhea and fatigue.I know my allergies.I have numerous ones.React to just about any medications.Covid vaccine I ended in the hospital. All my allergies are vascular and respiratory responses. I read up on prolia before taking it.I am in the health field and had second thoughts but went head. I truly regretted my decision My pcp denies they are prolia reactions.I KNOW MY BODY.No one tells me otherwise WiLL NOT TAKE THIS BLOODY MEDICINE AGAIN.

Prolia - I am in severe pain since injections 2 yrs ago. Stiffness in joints at beginning then pain in groin legs & hips that doesn't go away with painkillers.

I was prescribed Prolia in Dec., 2023. I've not felt myself since then. Continued muscle pain particularly at injection site with SEVERE muscle and joint pain in shoulder, neck, hips, legs, just about all over. I'm using a heating pad for these symptoms that are keeping me awake at night. I recognize I am at risk of fracture due to loss of bone density, even after taking Tymlos and Fosomax for a number of years and continuing loss of bone density. I will not continue with Prolia. I too recognize these aches and pains may continue the entire time while on Prolia. I'll give it some time. Taking this medication has really made me feel aged!!

Prolia made 3 molars shatter. My teeth felt like rubber. After being off of Prolia for about 8 months my teeth felt back to their usual strong bones.eanwhile my smile, facial shape , comfort and oral health has been compromised. I am sorry I ever took this drug.

I deal only in the facts. I have no intention of scaring anyone. I had five doses of PROLIA and this gave me back-to-back UTIs, Cellulitis, pelvic pain and pain (similar to muscle spasms) at the top of my legs when resting. I have stopped taking PROLIA. All of these adverse effects have gone away. These are the facts. Make of them what you will.

I have taken polia 3 time. Every 6 months. I had a dexi scan before starting and after 3 shots. The osteoporosis is worse. I am 67 years old.

Like most people, I was not advised that once you start Prolia, you can't discontinue easily. You have to go on a complex relay protocol involving an alternative antiresorptive and monitoring of bone turnover (not density - turnover!) We are not warned about this, although it's mentioned in the manufacturer's consumer materials, AND discussed extensively in clinical studies worldwide. The consequences of failing to go on a relay protocol (which is NOT always available) is that you go into "Rebound", that is, accelerated bone turnover which causes catastrophic bone loss AND an increased risk of multiple spontaneous vertebral fractures. This shocking aftereffect of Prolia was not discussed with me and when I discontinued (there are MANY reasons one might discontinue, or miss a shot; I won't get into them here) I did indeed suffer major bone loss AND five spontaneous vertebral fractures, all in one day. That we are not warned that we can get TRAPPED on this drug is the manufacturer's dirty little secret, which it semi-hides from users. There is SO much to know about denosumab - that it doesn't "build" or "strengthen" bone (it only builds density, which comprises undisposed of dead bone cells); that it does NOT "prevent fractures" (merely reduces fracture occurrence in clinical studies); that it cannot be safely discontinued without that complex relay protocol; that it has significant side effects over long term use. There is a Facebook group with more than 11,000 members that has significant science-based information which is worthwhile joining for a summary of the main issues with this appalling drug (Denosumab Side Effects/effets secondaires and support it's called). If your doctor hasn't told you about the Rebound Effect, find one who has, before you even CONSIDER treatment with this drug. He might know how to get you onto the drug but if he doesn't know how to get you OFF of it again, well, you need a new doctor.

I had a myriad of horrible side effects. FOR EVERYONE COMMENTING: you cannot just stop this drug. When you do you suffer catastrophic bone loss which can result in Multiple Spontaneous Vertebrae Fractures. You MUST take a bisphosphonate to stop this from happening. I just got my 4th Prolia injection and have had absolutely no issues. I am 75 years old and my osteoporosis is pretty bad. I obsessed for months before starting because I have a mouth full of implants and bone grafts in my mouth. I lost my upper teeth when I was 18 and am holding on to my lower implants for dear life. My dentist has told me if I lose the implants, I don’t have enough bone for lower dentures. So I read all the reviews and talked with my dentist. He said I was fine with taking Prolia since my dental hygiene is something I take very seriously. I will be getting my first Dexascan in February since starting Prolia. I am so looking forward to either stabilizing my scores or even better, improving them!
