Dibucaine Topical Ointment

Dibucaine topical ointment is an over-the-counter (OTC) product used for pain, hemorrhoids, sunburn, cuts, abrasions, insect bites, and skin irritation.

Topical Pain

• Adults: Apply topically to affected area up to 3-4 times/day; do not exceed 30 g/day
• Children over 2 years (and over 15 kg): Apply topically to affected area up to 3-4 times/day; do not exceed 7.5 g/day
• Children under 2 years (or under 15 kg): Safety and efficacy not established

Dosing Considerations

• Prolonged use not recommended

Administration

• Wash hands before and after administration
• May cover with light dressing if necessary
• Do not apply to open wounds, burns, broken or inflamed skin; do not apply in nose, mouth, or eyes

Common side effects of benzhydrocodone/acetaminophen include:

• Contact dermatitis
• Sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity)
• Flushing
• Eye/skin irritation
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Chest pain
• Palpitations
