Dyclonine

Dyclonine is an over-the-counter (OTC) product used for temporary relief following occasional mouth and throat symptoms including minor irritation, pain, sore mouth, and sore throat.

• Dyclonine is available under the following different brand names: Sucrets Classic Sore Throat, Sucrets Maximum Strength Sore Throat, and Sucrets Children's Formula.

Dosage Forms and Strengths

• 1.2 mg
• 2 mg
• 3 mg

Pharyngitis

• Indicated for temporary relief following occasional mouth and throat symptoms including minor irritation, pain, sore mouth, and sore throat
• Adults and children over 2 years: Allow lozenge to dissolve slowly in mouth; may be repeat every 2 hours as needed
• Children under 2 years: Safety and efficacy not established (lozenge may be a choking hazard)
• Not to exceed 10 lozenges/day

This medication contains Dyclonine. Do not take Sucrets Classic Sore Throat, Sucrets Maximum Strength Sore Throat, or Sucrets Children's Formula if you are allergic to dyclonine or any ingredients contained in this drug.

Cautions

• Lozenges considered a choking hazard in young children
• Advise patients to discontinue and seek medical advice if sore throat is severe, lasts for more than 2 days, occurs with or is followed by fever, headache, rash, nausea, or vomiting
• Advise patients to discontinue and seek medical advice if sore mouth symptoms last more than 7 days, or irritation, pain, or redness continues or worsens

Pregnancy and Lactation

• Use dyclonine with caution during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Animal studies show risk and human studies are not available or neither animal nor human studies were done.
• It is unknown whether dyclonine is distributed in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
• Pregnant or breastfeeding patients should seek the advice of a health professional before using over-the-counter (OTC) drugs.
