Esterified estrogens and Methyltestosterone

Esterified estrogens and Methyltestosterone combination is a prescription medication used to treat the symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes or night sweats.

Common side effects of Esterified estrogens and Methyltestosterone include:

• swollen or painful breasts.
• vaginal itching or discharge, changes in your menstrual periods, and breakthrough bleeding.
• pain or burning when you urinate.
• nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps.
• darkening of facial skin, increased hair growth, and loss of scalp hair.
• vision changes, and problems with contact lenses.
• swelling, weight gain, or loss.
• increased or decreased libido.
• headache, dizziness, depression, anxiety; or
• abnormal liver function tests.

Serious side effects of Esterified estrogens and Methyltestosterone include:

• Hives, 
• difficult breathing, 
• swelling in the face or throat
• severe skin reaction (fever, sore throat, burning eyes, skin pain, red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling.
• heart attack symptoms--chest pain or pressure, pain spreading to the jaw or shoulder, nausea, sweating.
• signs of a stroke--sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body), sudden severe headache, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance.
• signs of a blood clot--sudden vision loss, stabbing chest pain, feeling short of breath, coughing up blood, pain, or warmth in one or both legs.
• swelling or tenderness in your stomach.
• nausea, vomiting, swelling, and rapid weight gain.
• jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
• changes in skin color.
• a light-headed feeling and
• unusual vaginal bleeding.
• a breast lump.
• memory problems, confusion, and unusual behavior.
• high levels of calcium in your blood--nausea, vomiting, constipation, increased thirst or urination, muscle weakness, bone pain, lack of energy.

Rare side effects of Esterified estrogens and Methyltestosterone include:

• none

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

• Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors.
• Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights.
• Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheartedness, or passing out.

Tablet

• 0.625 mg/1.25 mg
• 1.25 mg/2.5 mg

Adult dosage

• Females: Oral: Usual dosage range (based on esterified estrogen component): 0.625 to 1.25 mg orally once daily administered cyclically (3 weeks on, then 1 week off)

• Esterified estrogens and Methyltestosterone have moderate interactions with at least 92 other drugs.

Contraindications

• unusual vaginal bleeding that has not been checked by a doctor.
• severe liver disease.
• if you have had a stroke or blood clot.
• if you have had hormone-related cancer, or cancer of the breast, uterus/cervix, or vagina; or
• if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Cautions

• You should not use this medicine if you have: undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, severe liver disease, if you will have major surgery, or if you have ever had a stroke, a blood clot, or cancer of the breast, uterus/cervix, or vagina.
• Estrogens may increase your risk of developing a condition that may lead to uterine cancer. Report any unusual vaginal bleeding right away.
• Using this medicine can increase your risk of blood clots, stroke, heart attack, or cancer of the breast, uterus, vagina, or liver. Estrogens should not be used to prevent heart disease.
• Esterified estrogens and methyltestosterone should not be used to prevent heart disease or stroke because this medicine may actually increase your risk of developing these conditions.
• Do not share this medicine with another person, even if they have the same symptoms you have.

Pregnancy and Lactation

• Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment.

Lactation

• It may not be safe to breastfeed while using this medicine. Ask your doctor about any risks.
