I have been using this drug since 2013- both daily and every other day taking 1/2 pill. It is the only way i can keep my sodium in balance. It is very costly at $250/month. Tried UreNa powder but was not as effective and it was more money. I am concerned with long term effects since not many case studies are with patients under 50 and long term usage.

Samsca makes my mother very strange. She cannot wake up and be alert on this drug. She wants to eat or talk but cannot stay alert or focused on anything. She will look at you and then zone out completely with her eyes still open but she does not see you anymore. It is scarry how this drug is making her behave. Also it is not increasing her serum sodium. She had not behaved this way ever before, and the behavior started on the first or second day after she was given the drug. One day, the drug was not administered (by accident) and she was normal that day. So far she has had 6 doses.

Prob for SIADH - so told. After 1 tablet (15mg) Serum Sodium lept up 20 points! This wasn't good, patient hallucinations and mobility wise, had to be wheelchaired everywhere. Also after one dose speech was as though patient had a stroke & juddering words looked like a seizure could be imminent, patient not epileptic. Just awful to watch. Glad tthis drug did not cause death - this time. Not Recommended, if you can help it, other options are available..

My husband had hypervolemiaand /hyponatremia & CHF, took 1 dose of Samsca, died 26hrs later [Dec 2009]. His hyponatremia level did'nt improve during hospitalization & Samsca was tried. I have reported this adverse reaction to the FDA.
