Stress test with persantine undertaken as pre spinal op diagnostic. Within 10 mins. I had violent headache (as though axe embedded in skull, rapid heart rate, nausea, sweats, and then I collapsed. Was in resus room for 5hrs before second antidote reduced head pain but rapid heart rate did not return to normal until 23 hrs later. No chest pain. The most distressing event I have ever experienced. To my knowledge the cardiologist (in France) did not write up or report this adverse event. I know that a no. of patients have died, had heart attacks or ended up in a coma after intravenous persantine, NEVER AGAIN FOR ME !

within seconds of getting this IV, I passed out. Came to with Dr.sitting on bed with arm around me to hold me up. he asked if I fainted often and I said never in my life (85).I asked if this was a normal reaction and he said mine was the worst he had ever seen it was very bad. They called my son to pick me up and told him I was not to be left alone all night. I did not return there. My new Cardiologist said I was just nervous and has been ordering tests with this drug which I refuse to take. Parted company. New Cardiologist wants the same Nuclear Drugs tests. Am I right to be so nervous? I feel like it would be like putting a gun to my head. Would it help to have allergy tests?

Female 85 yrs. I was sent to a Cardiac Care Centre and was given an injection of Persantine. Within seconds I was hot, dizzy, and nauseous. Next thing I knew, I was propped up on the bed by a Dr's arm holding me, and he was sitting on the bed. I had passed out and had been given an antidote. He had seen my heart rate going down on the monitor. I asked if this was a normal reaction and he told me it was the worst he had seen. My son was phoned to pick me up and was told that I was not to be left alone that night. An appointment was made for the next day to complete the test, NO THANKS! I changed Cardiologists six months ago and he was told about my reaction to this drug. He is now suggesting I do a test with Persantine, and when I reminded him of my experience he said that was because I was nervous! To have this drug again would be like putting a gun to my own head!!! Death is inevitable, but I sure don't want to rush it!

Female age 56, over weight. Had the test today at noon, in a controlled setting, clinic, not a hospital. Did not know what to expect. Was a bit scary. Felt a lot of chest pressure. On a 1-10 scale, it got to a 7, after about 4 minutes. They gave me an injection of something to counter what I was feeling. It took a few minutes for the pressure to dissipate. It will take 2 days to get results. It was not a pleasant experience, but sure beats having a heart attack on the street. I would recommend this test to someone with an abnormal EKG, even if it's just one showing changes from a prior normal EKG.

Had this test done just this morning and was told it would cause Headache. It has but drinking something with caffeine in it has helped to bring on relief. All together I feel that this test was not to difficult and if I had to do over again at least I will be prepared.
