I started having chronic Diarrhea in the early 1990s. I was in the Army and saw several doctors for my issue. I always got the same response from the doctors. Change diet; take Imodium, Pepto-Bismol, yogurt, etc. One doctor told me there is no cure for chronic Diarrhea (IBS). I could not eat two bites of food without having to run to the bathroom, sometimes having an accident before could get to the toilet. After ten to twelve years of all prescriptions, scopes, colonoscopies a doctor finally said he discovered the problem. My liver was not making any good cholesterol. I started taking two 1GM tabs daily and I have not had that "horrible" problem since. I did recently notice the 1GM pills are much softer and have started to have some Diarrhea. I was curious if anyone else noticed this.

I had a bowel resection as an infant due to intussusception and have always had problems with diarrhea. Every doctor I saw said IBS, but I still had problems until I finally saw a GI who discovered that I don't have an ileocecal valve and prescribed colestid. It has changed my life, I don't have to take loperamide as often and I no longer have to worry about accidents when I'm away from home.

I have mycroescopic colitis. After suffering with very acerbic loose stools for over a year my GI Dr. recommended cloistid. It does firm up the initial bm but immediately or shortly after the firm bm I go back to the looser movement...although the acerbic quality is gone. Also it seems I bruise and bleed more easily. I am not on a blood thinner.

I have been taking Colestid for 30 years and it made my life normal. I only have to take 5g in the morning which I mix with Citrucel fiber therapy. The Citrucel helps with the constipation associated with Colestid and I very rarely have the cramps and diarrhea that made my life miserable.

Due to having Ankylosing Spondylitis, a form of Arthritis. Having AS we tend to have other health issues with this. Had Gallbladder removed years ago. Plus several intestinal surgeries. But my last intestinal surgery, the chronic diarrhea really got worst! My surgeon wouldn't listen to me! I lost over 75 pounds!! Went to see a Gastroenteritis, had both test of inner & outter done found nothing. I was taking so much, Imodium multi symptom tablets!!! I told him I'm sick of doing so many tests one after another. He put me on Colestid Oral only 100 mg, now it was working but now it's coming back again. Think it's time to increase it as I am reading other posting here. All so found I stop drinking milk, only a little in cooking etc. But not the glass full.. I found a big different even with my Mom having IBS drink Soy Milk really slows down the system etc. Sick of loosing weight I'm 58 old and I was down to my High School weight, that's not right.

I have had IBS w/D every since I was 16, but wasn't diagnosed with it until I was in my 30's. Nothing had seemed to help, but Colestid seems to be helping, even though I still sometimes go to the bathroom 3 times a day, but it is more formed. My new doctor prescribed the granules and oh boy...I have tried almost everything but still have a very difficult time taking this without gagging or throwing up! I have tried different liquids, even cereal to no avail (with good luck that is). I would like to find out if there is anyone out there that was prescribed the tablets and if so are they easy to take (size and taste wise)? I need a better, easier way to take this because I really need something that works like this is so far. Thanks for any help.

I had my gallbladder removed in 1971 at age 19. I had chronic diarrhea for 30 years before I was put on the Colestid. It has saved my life. Only problem I have is it gives me horrible, earth rumbling farting! Guess it's a pay off but whew! Wish there was something that helped with the gas from it.

I take a half packet of Colestipol in the morning in orange juice, and I am good for breakfast, including coffee, and for the rest of the day. It controls diahrhea that resulted from gallbladder surgery in 1981. I have used it all this time with no side affects (probably because of the small dose). Experiment with a dosage that works. It makes all the difference in my lifestyle.

After living 10 years with the flushing syndrome after gallbladder surgery in 1991, Colestid gave me a new life. I was not able to go anywhere without a restroom close by. I knew where every restroom was in businesses around town.I have recommended everyone that has the same problem to have their doctor prescribe this to them, it will change their lives.

I am using this drug with carafate to line my intestines due to having a spastic colon. I had my gall bladder out and 18 inches of my colon out and this is the first time I can go out and eat without running to the bathroom. It works and I am so thankful. My doctor had his gall bladder out and was having bathroom problems he put me on these meds and they are working for him and me!!!

I was given this medication to lower my cholestrol...it did not work...and my cholestrol actually increased..214 to 256. In reading other reviews it appears it's best used for intestinal/gall bladder problems. Something I do not have.

I've had diarreha for years. This is the only thing that seems to help. Missing a dose causes the diarreha to start up again.

I was placed on this medication after recent gall bladder removal. The loose stool has slowed down quite a bit. But I've noticed some itching in my left under arm at this time. This will be monitored and reported to my primary.

I am taking this medication due to chronic diarrhea caused by my gall bladder removal. It truly has changed my life! I no longer have to be near a bathroon 24/7. I have only had one reoccurance of diarrhea and that was due to my missing my dose the day before. I was, however, in the bathroom most of the day. Therefore, I would highly recommend not missing a dose.

I've been taking this medicine for years, and the only problem I sometimes have is remembering to allow the necessary time to pass before taking other medications. I took the powdered form for a bit, and found it ineffective and frankly, gross. However, the pills (though huge!!) work just fine and have never given me any problems with side effects.
