Was prescribed this med for a severe foot infection.I'm a 60 year old 300lb man. Was given this medication during and after a bunionectomy in addition to the anesthesia. It provided a ton of relief, almost felt nothing. However, it did cause extreme drowsiness, nausea and vomiting - all well worth it to alleviate the post op pain.

She told me to take Ibuprofen or Tylenol, which of course did nothing. Her colleague put me on Gabapentin, which has helped some, but not as well as the Hydromorphone. My main point here is that while some of us really need pain meds for a short time, we can't get them because of all the people abusing them. It's NOT right!! Something has to change! Obviously I'm not a drug abuser, because I still had the original 20 tabs from last summer.

I've tried so many treatments and meds--and the only two to give me any relief are, Opana (now yanked in ER form :( )...and Hydromorphone. I take 4mg tid, because of the hypercautious approach my doctor takes per necessity...when I really need about every 3-4 hrs. PLEASE people who do it--QUIT ABUSING THIS DRUG AND GET HELP!!! We pain patients are now having to go through hell on the outside as well as the hell of pain inside because of the unseemly interest Uncle Sam takes in what meds pain patients get. Please think of someone besides yourself AS WELL AS yourself!!

Horrible dreams, respiratory distress, anxiety and depression. Felt like I was suffocating! I was on the drug for about 10 days; off it now for a week or so, but the side effects are alarming. I'm still anxious and at times have suicidal thoughts, but my breathing is about 80% better. I don't know how long these side-effects will last...until the drug is completely out of my system. Morphine and Vicodin help, without the drastic side-effects.

Well I got in a car accident in 2010 and my back and my c5 has need in really bad shape o tried everything nothing worked unroll I got these its the only thing that helps.

I was sent home from the hospital with this med for a broken knee last summer. Never used it until 4 months ago when I wrenched my back. The pain was unbearable. Every movement I made was affected. My back pain was WAY worse than my broken knee! I was desperate for relief, so I took (1) 4mg tab daily of Hydromorphone (only had 20 pills). I tried to get it refilled and my doctor refused. She told me to take Ibuprofen or Tylenol, which of course did nothing. Her colleague put me on Gabapentin, which has helped some, but not as well as the Hydromorphone. My main point here is that while some of us really need pain meds for a short time, we can't get them because of all the people abusing them. It's NOT right!! Something has to change! Obviously I'm not a drug abuser, because I still had the original 20 tabs from last summer.

I've had severe chronic pain from arthritis and compressed nerve at L6/S1 for almost 2 decades. I've tried so many treatments and meds--and the only two to give me any relief are, Opana (now yanked in ER form :( )...and Hydromorphone. I take 4mg tid, because of the hypercautious approach my doctor takes per necessity...when I really need about every 3-4 hrs. PLEASE people who do it--QUIT ABUSING THIS DRUG AND GET HELP!!! We pain patients are now having to go through hell on the outside as well as the hell of pain inside because of the unseemly interest Uncle Sam takes in what meds pain patients get. Please think of someone besides yourself AS WELL AS yourself!!

Took large doses of Dilaudid when hospitalized for a torn tendon at the upper end of my Hamstring. It worked, but the side effects were terrible for me! Horrible dreams, respiratory distress, anxiety and depression. Felt like I was suffocating! I was on the drug for about 10 days; off it now for a week or so, but the side effects are alarming. I'm still anxious and at times have suicidal thoughts, but my breathing is about 80% better. I don't know how long these side-effects will last...until the drug is completely out of my system. Morphine and Vicodin help, without the drastic side-effects.

On my 4th and 5th knees, including originals, have had bilateral ankle and foot reconstruction. Left ankle did not keep correction. Chronic pain in knees , ankles, and feet. Been taking 4mg 3 time a day for several years. Would not have quality of life without pain control. Feel very blessed that my body has not needed dosage increase. It would be very nice if people who are helped by this drug were not made to do handstands and go thru lots of hoops to receive this. Don't like 'doctor shopping' but because of the attitudes against this drug many doctors will not prescribe.

I was prescribed 4mg every 3 hours after emergency surgery for suspected flesh eating disease in my left leg. I continued at this dose for the next 34 days I spent in the hospital.It was highly effective, especially if I stayed off my leg. I am now home taking 4mg every 4 hours and it continues to be effective.
