Fibric acid agents lower triglyceride levels by suppressing the very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) production by the liver and rapidly eliminating triglycerides from the blood. They are also effective in modestly increasing the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level but do not lower the low-density lipoprotein level.
