Flutamide

Flutamide is a prescription medication used for the treatment of prostate cancer. 

• Flutamide is available under the following different brand names: Eulexin 

Adult  dosage

Capsule

• 125 mg

Prostate Cancer

Adult dosage

• 250 mg orally every 8 hours

Common side effects of Flutamide include:

• breast swelling or tenderness,
• hot flashes,
• vomiting,
• nausea,
• diarrhea,
• impotence, and
• loss of interest in sex.

Serious side effects of Flutamide include:

• hives,
• difficulty breathing,
• swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat,
• nausea,
• upper stomach pain,
• loss of appetite,
• itching,
• tiredness,
• flu-like symptoms,
• dark urine,
• clay-colored stools, and
• yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)

Rare side effects of Flutamide include:

• none

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

• Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
• Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
• Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheartedness, or passing out.

• Flutamide has severe interactions with no other drugs.
• Flutamide has serious interactions with the following drugs:
  • abametapir
  • apalutamide
  • cobicistat
  • darunavir
  • fexinidazole
  • givosiran
  • idelalisib
  • pexidartinib
  • pretomanid
  • tucatinib
  • voxelotor
• Flutamide has moderate interactions with at least 21 other drugs.
• Flutamide has minor interactions with the following drugs:
  • atazanavir
  • levoketoconazole
  • maitake
  • ribociclib
  • taurine

Cautions

• Risk of severe liver injury
• Potential for aniline toxicity (methemoglobinemia, hemolytic anemia, etc); specially monitor patients sensitive to aniline toxicity
• The risk for cardiovascular disease may increase with androgen deprivation

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Use in LIFE-THREATENING emergencies when no safer drug is available
• Lactation
  • Excretion in milk unknown; not recommended
