Used as directed for seasonal allergies, just gave me a bad headache. No more effective than blowing nose with kleenex. Very disappointed.
only took it once, a single spray in each nostril in the evening, woke up at midnight with racing heart and the most bizarre anxiety attack ever, then felt very faint and nearly blacked out before calming myself down with a cold towel on the neck. Was a traumatic event to say the least, never touching Flonase again. Seeing so many others having a similar experience makes me wonder how Flonase is getting away with not listing anxiety as a side effect when it's clearly one, let alone being OTC without any such warning on the packaging.
Clears congestion in 3 days and works great daily with just one spray
I am not seeing much help from this, seems to give me a little relief then I dry up and get very stuffy. Seems like the longer I use it the worse I am, it is very very drying. I was hoping it would help my chronic congestion but it only gave me limited help.
the delivery method is the reason I won't buy this product again. I read the directions that came with the product, and it still doesn't work or spray the way it should. I would recommend saving your money and buying a different product.
I have taken Flonase off and on during allergy season. I am currently on Diltiazem for AFib. I took Flonase and Diltiazem at the same time and experienced terrible anxiety (nearly panic attack)(crawling out of my skin) high heart rate along with high blood pressure and light headedness. I had administered 2 sprays in each nostril. BEWARE Diltaizem can increase the effectiveness of Flonase…. It is not a good combination for me! You should be closely monitored while on the 2 meds together.
After a couple of weeks, wheezing, surg a dry horrible cough. Throat and chest, like I almost can't catch my breath, really scary. Almost called an ambulance until I learned these are attributable to this. Took it this morning. Looking forward to never taking it again. Terrifying side effects for otc drug. I'm stunned this is sold like this, and that i was given zero tips about this. Told my ent about the cough, and he said that's from nasal drip and never mentioned this medicine. I won't be seeing him again, either.
After 3 days of giving to my 7 year old daughter she went from a normal healthy happy kid to me thinking she needed a psychiatrist. The poor kid was talking about killing herself, what it was like to die. We went to ride our horses and she just rode off saying she wanted to go home. This is a kid that will ride her horse all day long. I thought she was getting sick and we all went home. Later that night I couldnt get her out of the kitchen. She was purposely pretending to sneeze all over the food and screaming. This is my sensitive, animal loving kid talking about what it would be like to kill a puppy! Today, she demanded to go to the bathroom, unbuckled and tried to get out of my moving car then had diarrhea in her pants 5 minutes later as I was just trying to get us home. Thank God I put two and two together. I hope my experience helps others. My child does not act like this or have any hyperactivity, etc. The pharmacist is telling me it should be out of her system in 3 days. I'm praying this is the case. I am blown away by how quick they are to prescribe this. My 6 year old daughter also took this but didnt have the same reaction. It is now in the trash! Never again will I trust a doctor to prescribe something to my children.
We have been in hell for the last 3+ months. My once happy, healthy teenager has had a long list of unexplainable symptoms (heat intolerance, heart palpitations/racing, derealization, insomnia, exhaustion, trouble focusing eyes, light sensitivity, weigh loss, limb tingling, nausea, joint pain, headaches, etc.). She has no history of mental health illness, but one day 3+ months ago she had a random panic attack. She hasn't been right since. We've been to a cardiologist who found arrhythmia and heart block (unexplained), endocrinologists, neurologists, and GP's. Nobody can explain what's going on with her. I came across this page and my mind was BLOWN. So many of these stories sound just like my daughter. My daughter started Flonase about 2-3 weeks before the panic attack. This has got to be the cause because she has been tested and imaged for literally everything else. I've spent thousands trying to get her better. There should be a warning on this drug. I am furious that we weren't warned. I continued giving this to my daughter for a while after her panic attack because I didn't know any better. I am so heartbroken. There needs to be a class action lawsuit because this is ruining lives. My once happy, healthy, athletic kid now homeschools and doesn't like to leave her room. Please reply to this post if there is something in the works to hold the manufacturer accountable.
Was great at first until I realized I was dizzy all the time. Blurry vision, and nose bleeds. After a couple of hours of spraying this medication in each nostril I became very dizzy and disorientated. My vision is blurry in one eye as a I type. My shirt is filled with thick red blood and I find it hard to think straight was. My nose is bleeding heavily and I have a slight headache. I thought at first I just wasn’t angling this medication properly so I watched a tutorial on how to properly use it. Didn’t make a difference, still woke up in a pool of my own blood. It’s unfortunate because the past few weeks I’ve been breathing fantastically. No more nighttime stuffiness (despite the nose bleeds) no more ear itchiness or eye itchiness. I’m going to have to find an alternative, as these side effects are effecting my ability to function. Increased anxiety too feel like I’m constantly panicking.
Absolutely amazing results for my what I called my sinus coma! The swelling and congestion was so bad that I felt drugged and could just fall asleep standing up! Flonase gave me my life back. No more sinus coma, BUT I’ve gained 5lbs in about 3 weeks and my eyes are extremely dry and irritated. So I’m extremely torn about getting off it because it’s the best my sinuses have felt ever, but I don’t want to gain weight nor harm my eyes so it looks like I’ll be giving up Flonase unfortunately.
Because I’m petite, I took the children’s version of Flonase. Worked great for my allergies, but soon developed alarming heart palpitations. After a month, I went to a cardiologist who did a multi-day test to track my heart rate and the results showed PVCs and SVTs and he prescribed a beta blocker. I was terrified as I was only 39. Just before starting the beta blockers, I realized the abnormal beats were gone and the only thing I did different was stop taking the children’s Flonase. I notified my cardiologist to warn him about the risks of this medication. I can’t imagine what would have happened if I tried the adult dose.
I started taking flonase, two squirts in the morning, daily, for 8 days. Had a panic attack at work the next day. Extreme anxiety, insomnia, tingly feeling in arms and neck, suicidal ideation, loss of appetite, loss of smell, loss of libido, and depression. I was 38, happy, active, and healthy and this has turned my life upside down. I could hardly work and had to ask my HR for workplace accommodations. Google "Steroid Induced Psychosis" and "HPA axis" to learn more about this rare reaction. DO NOT TAKE Prednisone or other steroids if you had this happen. There is a great discord link below for people who need a support group to talk to that has been super helpful in my recovery of now 6 weeks.
Spouse taking fluticasone and Flonase before. Causes aggression. Ugh.
This is a very dangerous medication for some people. This medication should have a black box warning. This medication has systemic effects which can severely impact your mental and physician health. Started taking Flonase 6 weeks ago and noticed I was struggling with feeling very winded in my weekly workouts. By week 6 I could barely get through my normal workout without feeling like I was going to collapse. Intermittent feelings of anxiety also started to progress. Shortness of breath and chest tightness became severe, nausea and stomach pain, weakness and fatigue. I could barley make it through a shower due to severe weakness. After seeing two different doctors and going to the ER because I thought I was dying I stopped the Flonase. This sent me into a very scary withdrawal which intensified all the symptoms I already mentioned including a severe panic attack and very dark thoughts that sent me back to the ER for a second time. Finally, nearly a week after stopping this medication I am starting to feel better though still experiencing gastric issues. I felt like I was going crazy until I saw all the reviews citing similar experiences. Be careful!!
Do not take this drug. It has been the worst time of my life. Anxiety through the roof, insomnia, depression, feeling dizzy and out of breath, diarrhea, quality of life has diminished. This drug will make it so hard to do day to day tasks. Even a walk around the neighborhood is hard. This company should be sued and the medics who prescribe this stuff need to be more aware this is a STEROID….. with harmful side effects. On my 5th week off and still feel persistent symptoms.
Relief from throwing up every am
I was prescribed Fluticasone for my allergies & Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. At first, I felt relief, but then out of nowhere I started having daily anxiety & panic attacks. And I’ve never suffered from anxiety in the past. I’ve taken this medication on & off for 3 months but it wasn’t until yesterday that I realized that THIS is what has given me anxiety! I stopped using Fluticasone 4 weeks ago bc I experienced a nosebleed. I wanted to give my nose a break. I took notice that the daily anxiety & panic attacks turned into a panic attack once or twice a week. Well, I’m still “stuffy” & decided to turn back to Fluticasone. Since then, I’ve had a panic attack every day & have been anxious throughout the day for no reason. NO MORE FLUTICASONE FOR ME!

Could I Be Allergic? Discover Your Allergy Triggers See SlideshowI was prescribed Flonase for Sinus Infections. After a few weeks of being on it, I started experiencing INTENSE panic attacks! Along with the feeling that I can't breathe, that my throat is tightening up, that my chest is tight, and my heart feels like it is racing and hurts. I ended up in the ER and again at the doctor's office. It has been 3 weeks since my last dose and I am still battling anxiety, panic, feelings of derealization and like I want to crawl out of my own skin! I have missed work because of this and it has been literal hell.
The first 4 days my allergies were so much better. I could finally breathe and no more post nasal drip - finally able to sleep without waking coughing, it seemed a miracle! But by day 5 everything started feeling worse and also developed sinus pain and pressure. I was doing the 2x a day as per directions. Each day I felt worse.. finally read more on side effects and “nasal irritation “ was one, but it didn’t connect as my congestion was still gone, but my sinuses felt inflamed.. once I stopped (on day 8) it took about 24 hours for the pain to lessen. I self treated with Mucinux, ibuprofen, cold and hot compresses and lots of water. My advice would be to start at 1 spray a day to see how it affects you. And stop immediately if you start feeling sinus pain. I wish I had. Disappointed because I was finally able to sleep and not constantly blow my nose and dose up with major antihistamines.. lifelong problem.
