I was advised to have this for adenomyosis and because in the UK you have to have tried everything before they will consider surgery. I struggled with depression and anxiety before I had it. Having it made that 100x worse, I wanted to self harm and had thoughts of ending my own life. I had palpitations, arm pain and tingling in my hand, so my GP stopped the treatment after month 1. I have since found out it is not advised to have it when taking amytriptyline, which I take daily, due to the risk of serious heart affects. If you value your sex life at all and have a choice, don't have it.
I am 29 years old I started Zoledex last year and nearly a year on I hate it… between the painful injections every month where there doesn’t seem to be an end in site, the hot flushes are crazy hotter then pouring a bucket of water over the stones in a sauna, hip and back pain daily, swollen feet can’t wear my normal shoes had to start wearing only trainers, night sweats( struggle to sleep next to partner). fatigue is constant, have had sex with my partner maybe 3 times this year, get vey dry and painful when we do even with lube. Low mood in and out of depression, brain fog couldn’t remember how to make a cup of tea, gained 20kg couldn’t loose it apart from 1 bowl of soup a day which is not sustainable. Stretch marks on stomach, Breasts and arms because of the weight gain. Loss of hair constant anxiety, haven’t felt like myself all year, shortness of breath much quicker. Hormonal ache on chin with deep cysts. Even with all the expensive skin care. Mood swings which the anger can be intense wanting to loose my temper every 5 mins. Scaring from injection site maybe a little ptsd from the needle did I mention fatigue or should I say exhaustion!! Night insomnia some times going two weeks on 2-3 hours of sleep a night which makes you feel out of it all day, more sensitive to pain all round. my face has definitely aged this year more wrinkles and nails break easier ( can not fit in clothing or look good in any cloths ) I have quite the tummy now days that I struggle to get my shoes on. So all round a complete delight also doctors keep changing the mark to when I will come off it, and have to start worrying about how it will effect me in the future ??
I was put on Zoladex 10.8 mg as a single dose to temporary stopmy period for fibroid removal. I was bleeding heavily and needed iron infusions. Dr thought the zoladex would stop my period so my iron levels would build. It has been 5 months and my periods have not returned. I am suffering terrible hot flashes, depression and loss of libido. This has been the worse experience of my life. My PP has had to refer me to a fertility specialist because this drug seemed to have thrown me into menopause at 35. My estradiol levels are that of someone going through premature menopause. I am now having to go to a fertility specilaist to try to conceive because of this drug
I have Endo, doctor doesn't want me to have a hysterectomy due to damage when my appendix burst, I also have a mirena so haven't had a period for over 10 years. The Endo pain has gone, I can handle the hot flushes but the dizziness and weight gain are not that great. I had my injection 3 months ago, and the first month I only got the hot flushes however when the other symptoms came it wasn't a great feeling, however I'm due tomorrow for my next injection so hoping it will improve more.
I will try very briefly to sum my experience with Zoladex. I am a girl, when starting the treatment i was 22 years old. I had a very serious endometriosis at such a young age. I underwent surgery and the next step of my healing were these injections. I read that many people have negative feelings towards the implant. I searched every side effect and I learned about every negative aspect and still decided to undergo the treatment. It was the best decision of my life. After 6 long months, I can tell that I finally feel like a woman, again. My side effects were: hot and cold flashes, first two months a little acne on my forehead and the last two months I couldn’t sleep at night. After the medication though, I feel very good. I didn’t gain any weight, I even lost a few pounds. My period before was such a painful experience, and now i just have a bit stomach ache and that’s it. After all it is very individual thing. Like I said some people have problems because of Zoladex, I on the other hand am happy. Wishing luck and health to anybody reading this!
I lost one ovary, and the other one was keeping on producing very big cysts that required surgeries. my doctor recommended zoladex 10.8 which stayed in my system for 8 whole months, so we can put the only ovary to save it on pause after a surgery as it was very weak after many surgeries. I'm suffering from this medication till now. I had horrible mood swings and my muscles got very weak so I had to do physio and hydro therapy for more than a year and I stopped due to being tired of this and till now after 2 years my muscles never came back. my skin type has changed, and the mood swings stayed with me and now I'm taking bipolar medication
While it did assist my pelvic pain the side effect were terrible. I am 22 and this is what I had. Cellulite everywhere, swollen fingers to the point I couldn’t get my rings on, highly sensitive (I am not a sensitive person), depressed, I put on 8kg in 2 months and I was having 2-7 hot flushes a day. I personally did not enjoy my experience on zoladex.
ZOLADEX leading up to my major operation to remove those dreadful fibroids, i was injected with ZOLADEX for three months leading up to the month i had the operation. It did not shrink the fibroids, all it did was to put me through unnecessary hot flushes, sweating and confusion. Horrible dreadful nasty experience which i would not wish on anyone. I was having a regular monthly cycle and no hot flushes. I also went through hell after the operation. I scream in pain as thr nurse removed one of the two tubes feom my tummy. I mentioned this to her and nothing was done. I had the operation on monday and i was sent out on friday within five days. That same driday night my body was on a tremor, with sweating and having a temperature. The cel doc arrived and asked me to do a urine sample, he then said i have all the colours of the rainbow on his test strip. The doctor said i have a kidney infection. This cleared up. I could go on and on but this will take all day. I HATE HOSPITAL, and very frighten of hospital. When i complained to the stupid non caring nurse that i felt unwell and screaming in pain when she removed one of my tubes should have told her something was wrong. I left hospital with kidney infection which should not hsve happened. Recovery period was not easy.
I was 23 when I was given a course of this medication, I’m now 46, with a lifelong history of sexual dysfunction which to date has not recovered. I’m a female and was prescribed this in the U.K. to treat Fibroids, prior to surgery, however the medication stole my sex drive. I was in a relationship at the time, which resulted in my boyfriend leaving me, additionally many hospital and GP visits in an attempt to recover my sex drive, with no success - I have tried everything.. this medication has ruined my life for ever.
I was put on Zoladex to stop periods prior to hysterectomy due to fibroids. I wish I had never started it. I bled non stop for months and started with high blood pressure. I have never felt as ill. Because of non stop bleeding I ended up anaemic and my hysterectomy was cancelled. I have stopped having the implants but symptoms have stayed with me and I can get no help to solve this problem.
I am 50. I have a 9cm fibroid that didn't give me any symptoms. My gynaecologist suggested that I needed to get the fibroid size down so I took one injection. My fibroid didn't shrink. In fact, I now have a 9cm Fibroid and a new one. I had almost every symptom, from raised sugar blood levels (I was told I was nearly prediabetic after taking zoladex), to high calcium levels in my blood. I could hardly walk - every bone creaked and brought me pain. I had dizziness and raging headaches. I only had one month of Zoladex but it has left me with a front heas headache that is with me most days requiring panadol. I am left with violent, frequent flashes which I have been told are more intense than natural ones. I never had joint ache or bone aching before taking Zoladex nor the front forehead headaches. I am concerned that people are being prescribed Zoladex for pain relief for edometrosis when it affects your bones, can give you osteoporosis and diabetes. If I could go back in time, I would have ran a mile away from this horrid, horrid medication that made me so sick that I couldn't get out if bed for an entire month. NO I DO NOT RECOMMEND ZOLADEX FOR A FIBROID IF YOU DONT NEED AN OPERATION.
After a number of treatments the latest has almost killed me. I am breathless to the point of being unable to move other than extremely slowly, I now have heart irregularity - symptoms requiring treatment and, even though these serious side effects are in the pharmacy and Cancer Agency information, my urologist will not even come out of his office to discuss, just sends out a message that it isn’t the Zoladex!
Had Prostatectomy (Robotic) and I am on Zoladex now as my PSA started rising a little, but yet not within detectable range (0.017). As a precaution my Urologist recommended an Preventive Salvage Radiation and put me on additional Zoladex for 2 Years. I agreed absolutely, early Intervention the better the chances of cure. Almost done now with Zoladex ( 2 Injections more to come). I have NO side effects whatsoever and feel great. PSA down <0.003 (Machine limit). Very effective.
After bleeding for 2 years straight and severe pain for majority of the time I feel Zoladex was a life changer I have severe Hot flushes, bad headaches, forgetfulness, low libido, whole body aches, I sleep very little, & can have mood swing but I will take all of these symptoms over bleeding all the time and being in severe pain. I have just had my 5th out of 6 and I don't even find having the injection that bad
My wife was given zoladex 3.6 after 2 dose she is suffering from varicose veins in legs I really pray that her heart veins are not damaged. We have stopped the treatment this drug should be banned for other then cancer use. My wife was advised for HRT for preparation for IVR however we regret going to doctor who advised us a cancer drug and spoiled my wife’s veins and legs…
I am 3 months through my treatment on Zoladex and though has completely eliminated the pains, cramps, vomiting and irregular bleeding due to my endometriosis and adenomyosis, it has been so hard. I've been experiencing hot flashes, high anxiety levels, insomnia, mood swings, weight gain, constantly feeling tired and low libido. It has made me feel so emotional and insecure, but I know and understand that these are short term problems for something that will help me so much in the long term. So I will wait it out as I feel I can handle these side effects for another 3 months.

QUESTION
A lump in the breast is almost always cancer. See AnswerI'm on Zoladex and Tamoxifen been on the shot for 9 months at first it was horrible I was nauseous, severe headaches, bone pain. I am type 1 diabetic so bood sugars go out of control the week I have the injection. Side effects are easing up but still have headaches her and there. If the stops my reoccurrence of cancer. Then I'll stick to it!
Anxiety, hot flashes, insomnia, high blood preasure.depression, fatique and headache, sex libido almost zero.I am not going to take the second shot its a nightmare!!
In the beginning, this medication was awful. I had severe headaches, dizzy spells, feeling nauseous, and severe menstrual bleeding for the first three weeks. But now, after being on it for over a month, those symptoms have decreased and I feel more relieved. The only two complaints that I have right now are SERIOUS HOT FLASHES AND MUSCLE PAIN at its finest! If I could rid of those two side effects, I’d b a happy camper!
This drug should not be given without prior counselling as it can strain relationships due to the rage, depression and sense of loss you may experience. I cannot believe it is so flippant prescrided.
