How do other cardiovascular drugs work?
Cardiovascular drugs are medications used in the treatment of various types of diseases that affect the heart and blood vessels around it. Medications that do not fall into any specific classification of cardiovascular drugs are categorized as “other cardiovascular drugs.”
Other cardiovascular drugs include tafamidis, and tafamidis meglumine which is a salt with tafamidis as the active ingredient and has the same effect. Tafamidis is used in the treatment of transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (heart muscle disease) which may be a wild type or caused by a hereditary mutation in the transthyretin gene.
Transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) is a heart disorder caused by deposits of transthyretin amyloid fibrils, an abnormal insoluble form of the transthyretin protein, in the walls of the left ventricle. The amyloid deposits cause the ventricular wall to stiffen and affect its ability to adequately relax to fill with blood or squeeze to pump the blood out efficiently.
Tafamidis binds to transthyretin protein, stabilizes its structure, and prevents the protein misfolding that results in the formation of amyloid fibrils.
What are the uses of other cardiovascular drugs?
The other cardiovascular drugs, tafamidis, and tafamidis meglumine are oral capsules used in the treatment of cardiomyopathy of wild type or hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis (ATTR-CM) in adults to reduce cardiovascular mortality and cardiovascular-related hospitalization.
What are side effects of other cardiovascular drugs?
There are no known side effects from treatment with tafamidis or tafamidis meglumine.
Information contained herein is not intended to cover all possible side effects, precautions, warnings, drug interactions, allergic reactions, or adverse effects. Check with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure these drugs do not cause any harm when you take them along with other medicines. Never stop taking your medication and never change your dose or frequency without consulting your doctor.
