What Are Side Effects Associated with Using Hydrochlorothiazide and Bisoprolol?
Common side effects of Hydrochlorothiazide and Bisoprolol include:
- dizziness, spinning sensation.
- feeling weak or tired.
- diarrhea, nausea, upset stomach.
- headache.
- cough, runny nose; or
- sleep problems (insomnia).
Serious side effects of Hydrochlorothiazide and Bisoprolol include:
- hives.
- difficulty breathing.
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
- chest pain.
- fast, slow, or uneven heartbeats.
- a light-headed feeling,
- blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain, or seeing halos around lights.
- shortness of breath (even with mild exertion), swelling, rapid weight gain.
- low potassium--leg cramps, constipation, irregular heartbeats, fluttering in the chest, extreme thirst, increased urination, numbness or tingling, muscle weakness, or limp feeling.
- liver problems--nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tired feeling, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
- low blood sugar--headache, hunger, weakness, sweating, confusion, irritability, dizziness, fast heart rate, or feeling jittery; or
- severe skin reaction--fever, sore throat, swelling in the face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.

- Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
- Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
- Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out.

What Are Dosages of Hydrochlorothiazide and Bisoprolol?
Adult and pediatric dosage
Tablet
- 2.5 mg/6.25 mg
- 5 mg/6.25 mg
- 10 mg/6.25 mg
Hypertension
Adult dosage
- Initial: 2.5 mg/6.25 mg tablet orally every day
- Increase based on clinical response every 2 weeks
- To minimize dose-independent side effects, it is usually appropriate to begin combination therapy only after a patient has failed to achieve the desired effect with monotherapy
- Maximum: 20 mg bisoprolol /12.5 mg hydrochlorothiazide orally every day.

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to hydrochlorothiazide and bisoprolol
- Severe or uncontrolled heart failure.
- Slow heartbeats that have caused you to faint.
- Aerious heart condition called "sick sinus syndrome" or "AV block" (2nd or 3rd degree); or
- If you are unable to urinate.

Cautions
- You should not use this medicine if you are unable to urinate. You should not use hydrochlorothiazide and bisoprolol if you have a serious heart condition such as "sick sinus syndrome" or "AV block," severe heart failure, or slow heartbeats that have caused you to faint.
- Hydrochlorothiazide and bisoprolol is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.
- Avoid drinking alcohol. It may increase your blood levels of bisoprolol.
- Ask your doctor before using an antacid, and use only the type your doctor recommends. Some antacids can make it harder for your body to absorb hydrochlorothiazide and bisoprolol.
- Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall.
Pregnancy and Lactation
- It is not known whether hydrochlorothiazide and bisoprolol will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
- Lactation
- Hydrochlorothiazide and bisoprolol can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not breastfeed while using hydrochlorothiazide and bisoprolol.
