What Is Methyltestosterone and How Does It Work?
Methyltestosterone is a prescription medication indicated for replacement therapy in conditions associated with a deficiency or absence of endogenous testosterone such as primary hypogonadism (congenital or acquired) and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (congenital or acquired) in men and to treat advancing inoperable metastatic (skeletal) mammary cancer in women who are 1-5 years postmenopausal. It is also used to relieve postpartum breast pain and engorgement in women.

What Are Side Effects Associated with Using Methyltestosterone?
Common side effects of Methyltestosterone include:
nausea
- vomiting
- changes in skin color
- ankle swelling
- frequent erections of the penis and breast enlargement in men
- hoarseness, acne, changes in menstrual periods, or more hair on the face in women
Serious side effects of Methyltestosterone include:
- hives
- difficulty breathing
- swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat
- changes in skin color
- increased or ongoing erection of the penis
- shortness of breath (even with mild exertion)
- swelling
- rapid weight gain
- nausea
- upper stomach pain
- itching
- tiredness
- loss of appetite
- dark urine
- clay-colored stools,
- yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
- development of male characteristics (in women) such as:
- acne
- changes in menstrual periods
- male-pattern hair growth (such as on the chin or chest)
- hoarse or deepened voice
- enlarged clitoris
Rare side effects of Methyltestosterone include:
- none
Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:
- Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, coordination loss, unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors
- Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights
- Serious heart symptoms include fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out

Inoperable Breast Carcinoma (Women)

- Oral: 50-200 mg/day
- Buccal: 25-100 mg/day
Postpartum Breast pain and Engorgement (Women)
Adult dosage
- Oral: 80 mg/day × 3-5 days post-parturition
- Buccal: 40 mg/day × 3-5 days
To induce pubertal changes in hypogonadal males
Pediatric dosage

Cautions
- Cardiac disease, hepatic disease, renal disease, elderly
- Hypercalcemia may occur in patients with breast cancer
- Risk for jaundice, cholestatic hepatitis, abnormal liver function tests, and potentially fatal hepatic peliosis — discontinue if any of these occur
- Patients are easily sexually aroused
