Horrendous side effects - fever, stiff neck, spots, headache, feeling sick, dizzy, and trigeminal nerve pain

Horrible side effects. Worst In my life!!! I had doxycycline 10 days and metronidazole 7 days at the same time and after 2-3 days the symptoms hit me hard. I took it to empty stomach after coffee and left to the City Center for lunch. Before the lunch I felt So sick that I almost threw up in the car. Then at the restaurant I started to see weird light figure in my field of vision. No one believed me and it started to develope blurred vision which led to double vision. I had to walk outside to ”clear” my Head and tried to call my Doctor, could barely see my phone and called him. He was annoyed I reached him and just told me to TaKe another visio meeting (which costs money) and literally gave me no advice! He should have told me to go to ER. Extremely dangerous antibiotics Both of them and doctors carry 0 responsibility. My symptoms did not even leave and they keep prescribing the same metronidazole to me even though I have told them about the horrendous side effects. Lost my hope and now trying to cure myself naturally and stopped sex life completely. Hope this nightmare will end soon. I am almost sure that I got also chronic pelvic pain as long term side effect… AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

When they say do not take with Alcohol DON'T! I don't have a sensitive stomach and these do not bother me at all...UNLESS I have Alcohol. And I am even talking about a simple beer. Last night I forgot the warning and had a beer with dinner and OH MAN!! No vomiting but the cramps were killing me. Other than that, my infection is going away with no other side affects.

I have taken this twice for BV and both times it has not gone away completely or comes back almost immediately (like a week later). Easy to take, didnt have any bad side effects other than the infection not going away completely. Having to take another antibiotic now.

The only side effects were bloating and tiredness. I took with food and prebiotic.

It feels like the only thing it did was make me sick to my stomach and taste sweet metal. Had to stop half way thru taking it because I was so nauseous constantly that I couldn’t work or sleep. Had me lying around all day for multiple days. To be fair I am on another antibiotic but my health care provider said to stop taking this antibiotic after hearing my reaction to it. I also have a fairly sensitive stomach which could be intensifying my symptoms.

Metronidazole (Flagyl) antibiotic contains a MAO inhibitor as does Zyvox. Do not take Metronidazole if you are taking any medication that has a MAO inhibitor or a SSRI or tramadol (Ultram). There is a dangerous interaction. I took metronidazole 500 mg 2x a day for a bacterial infection. My doctor took me off it after reporting these symptoms. The symptoms started after the 8th dose and with each dose, the symptoms increased. 1) Exhausted and fatigued: slept 10-12 hours per night plus naps each day; could walk 3 miles before starting metronidazole but could barely walk 1/2 mile after the 10th dose. 2) The dizziness increased until it was no longer safe for me to walk alone. 3) Back pain (unexplained) after dose 8. 4) Nausea after dose 7. 5) sweating throughout the day and waking me up in the night, but no fever. 6) diarrhea after dose 7 nausea and diarrhea started at the same time) 7) woke up scratching upper chest and back of head. 9) Woke up after dose 9 with a sudden stuffed up nose. 10) Headache 11) Horrible feeling. I felt so bad that I had determined if it got worse, I was going to the ER (I avoid the ER if at all possible). I didn’t even feel this bad when I had COVID. There is an unusual list of foods you cannot eat with metronidazole such as bananas, chocolate, salami, among others. You MUST NOT consume any alcohol or alcohol containing foods 3 days prior and 3 days post or there will be “serious problems.” I have not unearthed what the serious complications are, but they have to be bad to list it that way. I followed all dietary rules exactly, with no deviation. It has now been almost 24 hours since the last dose. I am starting to feel better. If these symptoms persist for another 2 days, the doctor wants me to come in. This is the only antibiotic I have ever reacted to in all my decades of life. Use extreme caution and alert your doctor immediately. And advocate for yourself!

I have been on this medication for 5 days now. I feel like I'm going out of my mind. I suffer from mild depression and anxiety, and ocd. And I can't slow down with my thoughts, my anxiety is at it's peak and it's repetitive. I reached out to the pharmacy and they said to keep taking the medication and that it's probably the infection/ playing off my mental health problems... I haven't felt this awful in years. All I can do is sleep so I don't do anything stupid and I had to leave work early because I couldn't function. Be careful on this medication...

I’ve dealt with chronic BV for years and I’m praying this helps it stay away. So far so good. The side effects I had were terrible headaches and very tired. I need to wait a few weeks or a month to see if it really got rid of the bacteria. My OB has me starting Cephalexin for a week next to clear out all the bacteria. Praying it all works and the meds were worth it!

My goodness, I never read reviews about any medication until taking this one. I felt like I have taken it before but I don't remember getting extreme side effects like I got this time around. I did not feel like my self AT ALL. I would just cry and cry for random shit. I have anxiety and mild depression and man both were through the roof. I had headaches, nausea and loss of appetite. I was getting so scared and thought it was other health issues but decided to look up the reviews and good thing I did, because I thought I was loosing my shit. Thank god I had my boyfriend to center me. I get hot flashes and get extremely cold. This medication works the infection is gone but the side effects kicked my absolute ASS!!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER WILL I TAKE AGAIN.

Terrible dude effects of stomach hurting. Thinking of stopping the medication. Not sure if it’s clearing the bacterial infection in the vagina area yet as I am still getting itching sensation

I was terrified to take this due to reading the reviews but after sitting staring at the box for 2 days with my BV getting worse I decided to bite the bullet. I’m only 115lbs and have a sensitive stomach so was expecting the worst, but it was nowhere near as bad as I imagined. First few days I had a little nausea on and off with ever so slight dizziness but by day 3 my symptom were near enough gone as were the side effects. I ensured I hadn’t drank alcohol 48 hours before taking it and didn’t touch a drop of it until 48 hours after my last tablet. I made sure I took these straight after a meal and downed the tablet with lots of water to try to avoid any sickness and it worked just fine for me. Just a pre warning - no matter how quick you swallow this tablet it will leave a lingering horrible taste so would avoid going on any intimate dates whilst taking it. You wake up with a truly horrible taste in your mouth but it’s so worth putting up with it for a week to get rid of BV. I’m now back smelling fresh and can’t wait to get a drink down me after a long week of taking Metronidazole.

I had a tooth extracted and a bone exposed. I have been on this 2ce since extraction 4 months ago. I eat a very soft banana then add the dosage to my mouth and it's better than constant metallic taste. I am sluggish and tired. I am on day 3 and take 500mg 3 times a day. It's tough to get through for sure.

Had a allergic reaction to this mes broke out in hives all.over my body. Had to go to hospital a get an epipen. Also got a yeast infection. Looking for different doctor. I really don't think this medicine is legal.

I have been so sick the past 2 days using this med. I vomited 3 times last night. I have a headache that will not go away. My mouth taste terrible. My stomach is so upset. I can not eat anything. The thought of food makes me sick. And you have to take this med with food. Ya right. The scent of anything makes me want to vomit. I have hot and cold spells. Last night my body was so cold that my husband gave me mittens. I even used the heating pad to warm up. I live in Florida… I will never use this again. I just put in a call to the doctor and I can not wait to see what she tells me. I am grateful that I decided to go see the side effects of this med. Try finding something else.

i rememner taking this medication 10 years ago when i have h pylori and i had to stop it as the metallic taste was unbearable. Fast forward, just got told i have BV and was prescribed it and when i saw the name of the medication on my script i remembered how bad it was!!c However, this time round hasnt been bad at all. No metallic taste like last time, just super tired and lethargic, feeling like very little energy. Very sore back wierdly, like so sore on day 5 but no real problems. I have been taking a good quality probiotic this time with it so maybe this has helped. BV has defs gone now and feeling alot better in my stomach. JUST MAKE SURE TO TAKE A PROBIOTIC FROM DAY 1 WITH IT!!! VERY IMPORTANT!

This was absolutely horrible. I was doubled over with pain. I had extreme exhaustion, dizziness, diarrhea, yellow hairy tongue and more that I can't remember. I couldn't sleep because the pain was so bad. I will not take this medication ever again. After five full days of torture my doctor finally pulled me off this medieval drug.

Dentist prescribed for infection in my gums 250mcg 4 times per day after third dose woke up with swollen lips

In the start of the medication I started vomiting and brown urine and it started to also get bitter but then it started getting better. After I take the tablet I drink orange juice and I don't get anymore taste.

The infection in my tooth was so bad that I was using this on top of another antibiotic.It worked but the side effects were so unpleasant I stopped taking it after a few days.I was plagued by constant headaches, dizziness, brown urine and this awful taste in my mouth constantly while on this. I wound up losing several lbs of weight due to not wanting to eat while on this medication cause of the nausea. And the taste in the mouth would not go away all day. Once I stopped the side effects still remain for up to 48 hours so be aware if you take this. I would avoid if possible and use a different antibiotic.
