Miconazole Vaginal

Miconazole Vaginal is a prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medication used to treat the symptoms of yeast infections (vulvovaginal candidiasis).

• Miconazole Vaginal is available under the following different brand names: Monistat-1 Combination Pack, Monistat-3 Combination Pack, Monistat-7 Combination Pack, Monistat-7 Vaginal Cream, Monistat-7 Vaginal Suppositories, Vagistat-3 Combination Pack, Femizol M

Common side effects of Miconazole Vaginal include:

• mild burning or itching,
• skin irritation around the vagina, and
• frequent urination

Serious side effects of Miconazole Vaginal include:

• hives,
• difficulty breathing, and
• swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat

Rare side effects of Miconazole Vaginal include:

• none

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

• Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
• Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
• Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheartedness, or passing out.

Adult and pediatric dosage

Vaginal cream

Vulvovaginal Candidiasis

Adult dosage

• Vaginal 2% Cream: 1 applicatorful every night x 7 days
• Vaginal 4% Cream: 1 applicatorful every night x 3 days
• 100 mg vaginal suppository: Insert 1 suppository every night x 7 days
• 200 mg vaginal suppository: Insert 1 suppository every night x 3 days
• 1,200 mg vaginal suppository: Insert 1 suppository once

Pediatric dosage

• Aged below 12 years
  • Safety and efficacy not established
• Aged above 12 years
  • Vaginal 2% Cream: 1 applicatorful every night x 7 days
  • Vaginal 4% Cream: 1 applicatorful every night x 3 days
  • 100 mg vaginal suppository: Insert 1 suppository every night x 7 days
  • 200 mg vaginal suppository: Insert 1 suppository every night x 3 days
  • 1,200 mg vaginal suppository: Insert 1 suppository once

  • erythromycin lactobionate
  • erythromycin stearate
  • everolimus
  • lovastatin
  • ranolazine
  • silodosin
  • simvastatin
  • sirolimus
  • tolvaptan
• Miconazole Vaginal has moderate interactions with at least 89 other drugs.
• Miconazole Vaginal has minor interactions with at least 80 other drugs.
