Mitomycin

Mitomycin is a prescription medication used in combination with other anti-cancer drugs to treat stomach and pancreas cancer.

• Mitomycin is available under the following different brand names: Mitomycin C, Mutamycin

Adult dosage

Powder for injection

• 5mg
• 20mg
• 40mg

Stomach Cancer, Pancreas Cancer

Adult dosage

• 20 mg/m² IV every 6-8 Weeks

Common side effects of Mitomycin include:

• fever or other signs of infection,
• nausea, 
• vomiting, 
• diarrhea, 
• loss of appetite,
• mouth sores,
• drowsiness, 
• headache,
• blurred vision, and 
• temporary hair loss.

Serious side effects of Mitomycin include:

• signs of infection: fever, weakness, cold or flu symptoms, skin sores, frequent or recurring illness,
• wheezing, 
• chest tightness, 
• new or worsening cough, 
• trouble breathing,
• blisters or ulcers in the mouth, 
• red or swollen gums, 
• trouble swallowing,
• pain, burning, redness, swelling, irritation, or skin changes at the injection site,
• unusual bruising or bleeding, 
• pale skin, 
• confusion, 
• tiredness or irritability, 
• stomach pain, 
• bloody diarrhea, 
• red or pink urine, 
• swelling, rapid weight gain, and 
• little or no urination.

Rare side effects of Mitomycin include:

• none

• Mitomycin has severe interactions with no other drugs.
• Mitomycin has serious interactions with the following drugs:
  • bacitracin
  • deferiprone
  • erdafitinib
  • lasmiditan
  • palifermin
  • ropeginterferon alfa 2b
  • sotorasib
  • tepotinib
  • voxelotor
• Mitomycin has moderate interactions with at least 33 other drugs.
• Mitomycin has minor interactions with no other drugs.

Cautions

• Vesicant
• Avoid use in renal impairment (SCr above 1.7 mg/dL [150.3 umol/L])
• Chickenpox, recent
• Bladder fibrosis/contraction reported
• Herpes zoster
• Acute respiratory distress syndrome was reported when used in combination with other types of chemotherapy maintained at FIO2 concentrations of more than 50% preoperatively
• Avoid pregnancy
• Increased prevalence of Heart Failure was observed when used in conjunction with anthracyclines

Pregnancy and Lactation

• Use in LIFE-THREATENING emergencies when no safer drug is available. Positive evidence of human fetal risk.
