What Are Side Effects Associated with Using Moexipril-Hydrochlorothiazide?

Common side effects of Moexipril-Hydrochlorothiazide include:

  • dizziness
  • lightheadedness
  • drowsiness
  • headache
  • tiredness
  • blurred vision
  • dry cough as the body adjusts to the medication
  • decreased sexual ability
  • increased sensitivity to the sun
  • muscle or back pain
  • runny nose
  • sleep problems (insomnia)
  • diarrhea
  • constipation
  • upset stomach
  • skin rash
  • increased sweating

Serious side effects of Moexipril-Hydrochlorothiazide include:

  • hives
  • difficulty breathing
  • swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
  • severe stomach pain
  • lightheadedness
  • eye pain

  • little or no urination

  • pounding heartbeats

  • limp feeling
  • headache
  • slurred speech
  • severe weakness
  • vomiting
  • loss of coordination
  • feeling unsteady
  • burning in the eyes
  • skin pain
  • a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling

Rare side effects of Moexipril-Hydrochlorothiazide include:

  • none

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

  • Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, coordination loss, unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors
  • Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights
  • Serious heart symptoms include fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out

What Are the Dosages of Moexipril-Hydrochlorothiazide?

Adult dosage

Tablet

  • 7.5 mg/12.5 mg
  • 15 mg/12.5 mg
  • 15 mg/25 mg

Hypertension

Adult dosage

  • If blood pressure not controlled with moexipril or hydrochlorothiazide monotherapy: 7.5 mg/12.5 mg, 15 mg/12.5 mg, or 15 mg/25 mg orally every day
  • Increase either or both components based on clinical response
  • Do not increase the hydrochlorothiazide component more often than every 2-3 weeks
  • Doses above moexipril 30 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 50 mg every day have not been studied

What Are Warnings and Precautions for Moexipril-Hydrochlorothiazide?

Contraindications

  • Anuria
  • Hypersensitivity to either component or sulfonamides
  • History of angioedema
  • Hereditary or idiopathic angioedema
  • Coadministration of neprilysin inhibitors (eg, sacubitril) with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors may increase angioedema risk; do not administer ACE inhibitors within 36 hours of switching to or from sacubitril/valsartan
  • Bilateral renal artery stenosis

Pregnancy and Lactation

  • Use with caution if the benefits outweigh the risks during the first trimester. Use in LIFE-THREATENING emergencies when no safer drug is available during the second and third trimesters
