I can't give this medication 5 stars for effectiveness, ease of use, or satisfaction when Movantik has been a horrible experience for me, and I've only been brave enough to take it twice. I've been on high doses of opioids for 22 years. Constipation is part of the trade-off. 14 years ago a doctor suggested I use Miralax for constipation instead of high fiber. It makes things mushy but I have daily BM, amazingly. In the last year my x-rays and imaging kept reporting that I had a large amount of stool in my colon. I don't know that it's any different than it ever was. So my PM doc suggested Movantik. He said some people find it helpful and some refuse to take it ever again. I got brave and paid over $400 for 12.5 mg , 60qty. It took me a week to try it and it was a very bad experience. I have no idea how my toilet and plumbing system kept up. Within 35 minutes, gas, cramping, sweats, and LOTS of BM. I was wiped out but survived. I waited a week and thought ok, maybe this will clear me completely out and radiologists won't be focused on my colon but on the severe spinal degeneration I live with. My second dose was so much worse. After 2 days my stomach is still in painful knots, so much cramping, so much BM and then running liquid. I have rods running the length of my spine so I couldn't look to see if I was bleeding, but it was very bad. My husband kept coming to the door asking if I was ok (I was moaning and groaning). I'm actually afraid to eat just in case it starts coming out again. I am glad this works for some people, and I feel bad for those who take it and nothing happens at all, but what percentage of us have had such horrible experiences that this medication doesn't come with much higher cautions from the doctors that prescribe it? Fortunately it didn't affect my pain control. My doctor will be hearing from me. Thanks for your time and all your reviews.

It made me have a bowel movement right away but went into full-blown opiate withdrawal why the doctor didn't tell me this I have no idea. I wanted to absolutely die .

I'm a stage4 cancer patient. Needless to say cancer has spread to my lower half and I can't really sit down because of the pain. Soy pain management dr. has prescribed 3 opiaiites for me. I also have liver damage being enlarged and ammonia has building up on my brain. The movantik has been working on me. Also, just a little side note, you're supposed to take this tablet in the morning on an empty stomach. Results will be faster.

This is my third day of attempting to have a BM on Movantik. This medication is VERY expensive and has not worked for me at all. Also, the withdrawal symptoms have been a nightmare while taking Movantik.

I'm a long term opiod user and my pain mgmt doctor prescribed Movantik. I have had NO help with this Medication and fight monthly severe constipation. Maybe others have found success and I'm glad for you. Just my experience.

I've been taking 150mg Tramadol daily for 12 years for nerve pain. Took Relistor for 2 1/2 years with mixed results. It provided some improvement - 2 to 3 BM per week but occasionally needed a laxative or enema due to hard stool. OTC stool softeners had no effect. Switched to Movantik a month ago and have seen noticeable improvement. Now have daily morning BM like clockwork, without straining or using laxatives. I haven't had any of the reported problems like pain or diarrhea. Perhaps my success is because I take a milder opioid versus those taken by other people, or Movantik could just be a better match to my metabolism. My only adverse side effect is excessive gas. So I take GasX pills with each meal, which helps.

It can work. But dosage is critical. DO NOT USE Full dose to start.it worked quickly but left me feeling sick and in pain. I adjusted all the way down to 1/8 of dose. Basically around 3mg. And it still was effective without the pain and sickness. This is a powerful!!!!drug. Use in small dose then speak to the Dr. I would never take a whole pill ever again. CAUTION ?? is what I say. And timing is the other. I ended up feeling sick and in some pain after even small amount. And depending on your condition it's probably not for everyone. Just be cautious and work with Dr. Too much can be brutal on your gut.serious stuff. I don't use everyday. But many days in very small pieces I chew.good luck. If you take the full dose you may likely regret it. And definitely tell Dr. They need to know that a much smaller dose will work. I went through hell trying to adjust for help without sickness. I understand the people who don't want to touch it again.

Very effective for opiate constipation. However start with lower dose 25 mg will work but will work too fast. And can cause pain I adjusted down to 6mg much better but effective. Talk to your Dr. I guarantee 25 mg to start will be too much. But it works.experiment with Dr help.

I have been in pain meds for years and have severe constipation where I don't go but maybe 1x a month..I had issues before taking pain meds..I've been on all kinds of meds to help with constipation.. most take days to work and you never know when they are going to hit you..linzess helped for awhile but then wasn't working so today the Dr prescribed me movantik..I took one an empty stomach and ate just a few bites at supper.. it hit me hard with excruciating abdominal pain..I was praying and thought I was going to die..it has been going on for several hours now...I had a regular bm at first but then it turned to liquid...it felt like my stomach was going to rip open and someone was stabbing me and twisting the knife in my stomach..I can't deal with this...I should be cleaned out now but the pain isn't worth it...I got cold and hot and thought I was going to have to go to ER....I took my night time pain meds..I hope it helps...I've had withdrawals before and pray I don't experience that too..the Drs are so crazy about the pain meds as it is and what I'm on only helps me so long during a day and then I suffer the other hours of the day and night..I'm never taking another movantik again.

I was put on this medication yesterday. I took it while.I was cooking dinner. Right after I ate, I started having bad, intense pain in my stomach that felt like I was kicked an a very sharp intestinal, sharp pain that made made me dizzy, sweaty an nothing I did helped. Both would come in intense waves that lasted for about 20 to 30 seconds and would ease up for less than a minute. I've had kidney stones hurt less than that! I honestly thought I didn't cool my ham all the way! I took it this morning an have been going thru the same thing since about an hour after I took it. I'd rather deal with the constipation and just take 2 equate laxatives. I wish I would have researched it before I took it. I won't be taking anymore, that's for sure!

I cannot say I have benefited from taking Movantik at all. No laxative has yet to help me, increased water intake hasn’t helped, and now I’m experiencing stomach pain. No diarrhea, bm’s only after taking MiraLax a few times a day with Colace w/stimulant and even then perhaps twice a week. Began taking Lizness for almost three weeks and again very few and usually painful bm’s. I’ve backed off taking Oxycodone more than once a day just to try to void; unfortunately I can’t keep doing this due to extensive pain. I’m grateful not to have the severe reactions mentioned in these reviews, but this drug isn’t helping me any more than Lizness.

It works. BUT, the I'll effects are terrible. I first took 25 mg as prescribed. It worked but abdominal pain was horrible. I told Dr on next app. So I reduced it myself as miralax wasn't working for a couple days but is by far the mildest of all. So I've been using quarter or eighth and that little amount works. This stuff should be started in 3 to 6 mg at most. After going the pain persisted for a day. Scaring me into wanting to go to ER again.be extremely cautious using this.i wouldn't recommend a 25 mg dose for anyone first time. The decision on whats worse. The constipation or after effects. Uncomfortable either way. Very tough dealing with pain, constipation and the reaction from Medications.

At first i thought i was having a coincidental IBS episode. I had no idea this medicine worked so fast. It was terrifying and the most pain I have ever experienced. Took about 2.5 hours for the pain to stop. Id get about 45-60 seconds of relief before being hit with 15 long seconds unimaginable pain, long and severe enough for me to wonder if my stomach had finally tore open, if this was the time the pain wouldnt cease and id have to call and ambulance. This medication should not be legal. I have a hard time believing this actually helps people.

I have a morphine implant with both morphine & buvicaine. It makes me very constipated which causes urinary retention. I started with enclose which made me vomit. Then I tried linzess for years until it stopped working. I am currently taking Movantik 12.5mg. & I go every other day which is good for me. I have noticed sweats after starting Movantik. It is annoying but it’s better than being in the ER for severe constipation. It’s only my first week on it but for me, it’s been a life savior. Plus I recommend taking a probiotic & drinking lots of water along with eating veggies & fruit.

I take Oxys for Chrinic pain mostly due to pelvic adhesions. Took 1, yes ONE Movantik & I think I am being ripped apart & gonna die! Within 30 minutes from 1st dose, I was in bathroom & was completely cleaned out. I have severe sharp pains in my whole belly & have had water shooting out of me for last 2 hours & right now it is 3 hrs since I took that 1st pill. I can't do this every day. I feel like I'm gonna die here on bathroom floor.

I have been taking Tramadol 50 mg 3xday. I have Spinal Osteoarthritis going on 7 years. I recently tried Methadone 1mg 3xday. This med worked well for pain relief, then I started having constipation issues. My Pain Doctor got me a Rx for Movantik 12.5mg. I followed the instructions and for 8 weeks it worked very well. I would only take it, if I did not have a BM for 2-3 days. It still worked Ok. During week 9, I had my first event. I had very sharp Heart burn like chest pain. I took zantec 2x and the pain slowly subsided. Week 10, I ate Blue Berries and had a rectal blockage that lasted 6 hours -worst pain ever!! Used Prep-H suppositories (2) and the blockage finally passed. Continued to take Movantik as needed. Week 11: I got up at 3 am, to use the washroom. Decided to have a coffee before returning to bed. While making coffee, I started to feel Chest Pains. Within 15 minutes I have the Worst Chest Pain Ever!! I almost collapsed. I had a heart operation 6 months prior(angiogram stint) and I had Nitro-Glycerin for possible chest pain. I took 2 shots under my tongue. Within an hour every thing returned to normal. I went back to bed. Next Morning when I explained what had happened, my family freaked out. Went to the ER and got tested. Negative results for a Heart Attack. The Nitro kept me up for 36 hours, but I felt Ok as my normal pain levels were very low. Week 12: I looked into User Comments about Movantik. It was then I understood what mu-opioid receptor Antagonists are all about. The principle ingredient in Movantik is Naloxegol Oxalate an Antagonist for Opioids. Still, I only cut back a little on this med, as I still had NOT connected the DOTS. Week 13: Exactly 1 week later I had another Attack, Worse than the Last One!! Again I took Nitro-Glycerin Spray (2 shots under the tongue) and with in 60 minutes the Chest Pain had stopped. I was exhausted and stayed awake for the next 3 days. These Pain Episodes were the result of Sudden Opioid Withdrawal. Movantik and Methadone have the Worst possible combination of Drug Interaction. I see my GP Doctor in a few days. I am going back to Prunes, Prune Juice and Magnesium Citrate for constipation relief. I also stopped taking Methadone and just take more Tramadol as needed. Hope this info helps someone!!

Works faster than predicted. Causes cramping and diarrhea. A whole pill was too much for me. I've been taking opiates for back pain over 10 years. It did work. And the first day I was impressed but surprised it worked in like an hour. It says 12 or so. Then 3 days after stopping. Abdominal pain, lethargic. Felt terrible and scared. And im a pretty tough old guy 250 6ft . So it will work. But im trying only a 3rd of a pill. And that was after being off it for 5. I was in the bathroom within an hour or 2. Cramping again. I don't know what to think. I do know in my case . A much smaller dose is needed. And not every day. Maybe every 2 days. Will have to wait and see. But for mee there were side effects that were unpleasant.
