What Is Naloxone and Pentazocine (oral) and How Does It Work?
Naloxone and Pentazocine (oral) are combination medications used to treat moderate to severe pain. Naloxone is included in this medication to prevent the misuse of the narcotic ingredient.

What Are Side Effects Associated with Using Naloxone and Pentazocine (oral)?
Common side effects of Naloxone and Pentazocine (oral) include:
- dizziness,
- drowsiness.
- mild constipation.
- nausea, vomiting; or
- sweating.
Serious side effects of Naloxone and Pentazocine (oral) include:
- hives,
- difficult breathing,
- swelling in the face or throat
- severe skin reaction (fever, sore throat, burning in the eyes, skin pain, red or purple skin rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling).
- slow heartbeats, weak or shallow breathing, breathing that stops during sleep.
- severe constipation.
- confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts, or behavior.
- severe weakness or drowsiness.
- seizure (convulsions).
- a light-headed feeling,
- low cortisol levels--nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, dizziness, worsening tiredness or weakness.
- symptoms of serotonin syndrome, such as agitation, hallucinations, fever, sweating, shivering, fast heart rate, muscle stiffness, twitching, loss of coordination, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Rare side effects of Naloxone and Pentazocine include:

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:
- Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
- Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
- Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheartedness, or passing out.

What Are Dosages of Naloxone and Pentazocine (oral)?
Adult and pediatric dosage
Tablet: Schedule IV
- 50 mg/0.5 mg
Moderate-to-Severe Pain
Adult and pediatric dosage
- Aged above 12 years
- Take 1 or 2 tablets every 3 to 4 hours. Follow your doctor's instructions. Do not take more than 12 tablets in a 24-hour period.

What Are Warnings and Precautions for Naloxone and Pentazocine (oral)?
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to naloxone or pentazocine.
- breathing problems, sleep apnea.
- a head injury, brain tumor, or seizures.
- drug or alcohol addiction, or mental illness.
- urination problems.
- liver or kidney disease.
- a blockage in your stomach or intestines.
- heart disease or a heart attack;
- problems with your gallbladder, pancreas, or thyroid;
- Addison's disease or other adrenal gland disorder;
- porphyria (a genetic enzyme disorder that causes symptoms affecting the skin or nervous system); or
- if you have recently received other narcotic pain medicine or methadone.
Effects of drug abuse
- Addiction,
- Overdose, or
- Death.

Cautions
- Misuse of opioid medicine can cause addiction, overdose, or death. Keep the medication in a place where others cannot get to it.
- Taking opioid medicine during pregnancy may cause life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in the newborn.
- Fatal side effects can occur if you use opioid medicine with alcohol, or with other drugs that cause drowsiness or slow your breathing.
- Naloxone and pentazocine are not approved for use by anyone younger than 12 years old.
- Do not drink alcohol. Dangerous side effects or death could occur.
- Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine will affect you. Dizziness or severe drowsiness can cause falls or other accidents.
- Avoid smoking, which can make this medication less effective in relieving your pain.
Pregnancy and Lactation
- If you use opioids Naloxone and Pentazocine while you are pregnant, your baby could become dependent on the drug. This can cause life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in the baby after it is born. Babies born dependent on opioids may need medical treatment for several weeks.
- Lactation
- If you breastfeed while taking this Naloxone and Pentazocine, tell your doctor if your baby is very drowsy or has breathing problems.
