Naphazoline is used as a nasal decongestant.

Dosage Considerations – Should be Given as Follows:

• Adults and children over 12 years: 1-2 sprays per nostril every 6 hours as needed
• Children under 12 years: Not recommended

Side effects of Naphazoline may include:

• Central nervous system effects (anxiety, dizziness, tremor, etc.)
• Burning
• Stinging
• Sneezing
• Dryness
• Local irritation
• Rebound congestion

Warnings

This medication contains naphazoline. Do not take Privine if you are allergic to naphazoline or any ingredients contained in this drug.

Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.

Contraindications

• Heart disease (increased blood pressure, heart rate, palpitations)
• Narrow angle glaucoma

Cautions

• Caution in high blood pressure (hypertension), hyperthyroidism, ocular injury, diabetes mellitus, open-angle glaucoma
• Overuse may cause rebound congestion

Pregnancy and Lactation

Use naphazoline with caution during pregnancy if benefits outweigh risks. Animal studies show risk and human studies are not available or neither animal nor human studies were done.

It is not known if naphazoline is excreted in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
