Panax ginseng is possibly effective in cognitive function, diabetes, erectile dysfunction, and premature ejaculation.

Panax ginseng is possibly ineffective for athletic performance, menopausal symptoms, and quality of life.

There is insufficient reliable evidence to rate the effectiveness of panax ginseng for breast cancer, bronchitis, cancer, common cold, congestive heart failure and influenza

Panax ginseng is available under the following different brand and other names: Asian Ginseng, Chinese Ginseng, ginseng radix, Ginseng Root, Japanese Ginseng, Jintsam, Korean Ginseng, Ninjin, Radix Ginseng, Red Ginseng, and Ren She.

Dosages of Panax Ginseng

Suggested Dosing

Cut or Powdered Root

  • 0.6-3 g orally one to three times daily

Brewed Root Tea

  • 3 g orally one to three times daily

Erectile Dysfunction

  • 900 mg orally three times daily
  • Topically cream applied 1 hour prior to intercourse and washed off before intercourse has been used

Diabetes

  • 200 mg orally once/day

Other Information

  • 100-300 mg extract three times daily for 3-4 weeks
  • Extract standardized to 7% ginsenosides

This medication contains panax ginseng. Do not take Asian Ginseng, Chinese Ginseng, ginseng radix, Ginseng Root, Japanese Ginseng, Jintsam, Korean Ginseng, Ninjin, Radix Ginseng, Red Ginseng, or Ren She if you are allergic to panax ginseng or any ingredients contained in this drug.

Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.

Contraindications

  • Bleeding disorders, breast cancer, endometrial cancer, endometriosis, estrogen-dependent malignancies, diabetes, hormone sensitive conditions, hypertension, hypersensitivity, neonates, organ transplant recipients, ovarian cancer, pregnancy, thromboembolic disorders, uterine fibroids

Effects of Drug Abuse

  • Long-term use can cause changes in blood electrolytes that can cause heart function disorders, muscle weakness, liver damage, and other harmful effects.

Pregnancy and Lactation
