What Are Dosages of Paromomycin?
Adult and pediatric dosage
Capsule
- 250mg
Intestinal Amebiasis (E. Histolytica)
Adult dosage
- 25-35 mg/kg/day orally divided every 6 hours for 5-10 days
Pediatric dosage
- 25-35 mg/kg/day orally divided every 8 hours for 5-10 days
Hepatic Coma (Adjunctive)
Adult dosage
- 4 g orally every day in divided doses for 5-6 days
Diantomoeba Fragilis
Adult dosage
- 20-30 mg/kg/day orally divided every 8 hours
Pediatric dosage
- 25-30 mg/kg/day orally divided every 8 hours for 7 days
Tapeworm (T. saginata/T. solium/D. latum/D. caninum)
Adult dosage
- 11 mg/kg orally divided every 15 mins for 4 doses
Pediatric dosage
- 11 mg/kg orally divided every 15 mins for 4 doses
Dwarf Tapeworm
Adult dosage
- 45 mg/kg/dose orally once daily for 5-7 days
Pediatric dosage
- 45 mg/kg/dose orally once daily for 5-7 days
E. Histolytica
Pediatric dosage
- 25-35 mg/kg/day divided every 8 hours orally for 7 days OR
- 750 mg/m²/day divided every 6 hours orally for 5 days
Tapeworm (Hymenolepis nana)
Pediatric dosage
- 45 mg/kg orally once daily for 5-7 days

What Are Side Effects Associated with Using Paromomycin?
Common side effects of Paromomycin include:
- nausea,
- stomach cramps; or
- mild diarrhea.
Serious side effects of Paromomycin include:
- hives,
- difficult breathing,
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat,
- watery or bloody diarrhea; or
- worsening symptoms
Rare side effects of Paromomycin include:
- none
