Pentazocine-Naloxone is a combination medication used to relieve moderate-to-severe pain.

What Are Side Effects Associated with Using Pentazocine-Naloxone?

Common side effects of Pentazocine-Naloxone include:

  • Dizziness,
  • Drowsiness,
  • Mild constipation,
  • Nausea,
  • Vomiting, and
  • Sweating

Serious side effects of Pentazocine-Naloxone include:

  • Hives,
  • Difficulty breathing,
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • Severe skin reaction,
  • Fever,
  • Sore throat,
  • Burning in the eyes,
  • Skin pain,
  • Red or purple skin rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling,
  • Slow breathing with long pauses,
  • Blue-colored lips,
  • Hard to wake up,
  • Slow heartbeats,
  • Weak or shallow breathing,
  • Severe constipation,
  • Confusion,
  • Hallucinations,
  • Unusual thoughts or behavior,
  • Severe weakness,
  • Drowsiness.
  • Seizure,
  • Lightheadedness,
  • Nausea,
  • Vomiting,
  • Loss of appetite,
  • Dizziness,
  • Worsening tiredness or weakness,
  • Agitation,
  • Hallucinations,
  • Unusual thoughts or behavior,
  • Sweating,
  • Shivering,
  • Fast heart rate,
  • Muscle stiffness,
  • Twitching,  
  • Loss of coordination, and
  • Diarrhea

Rare side effects of Pentazocine-Naloxone include:

  • none 

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

  • Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
  • Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
  • Serious heart symptoms include fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out

What Are Dosages of Pentazocine-Naloxone?

Adult and pediatric dosage

Tablet: Schedule IV

  • 50 mg/0.5 mg

Moderate-to-Severe Pain

Adult and geriatric dosage

  • 1 tablet orally every 3-4 hours, may increase to 2 tablets every 3-4 hours or as needed; not to exceed 12 tablets/day

Pediatric dosage

  • Children below 12 years: Safety and efficacy not established
  • Children above 12 years: As adults; tablet orally every 3-4 hours, may increase to 2 tablets every 3-4 hours or as needed; not to exceed 12 tablets/day
