Podofilox

Podofilox is a prescription medication used for the treatment of Anogenital Warts.

Common side effects of Podofilox include:

• Mild skin irritation (pain, swelling, burning, redness, itching, tingling, blisters, crusting, dryness, peeling) where the medicine was applied,
• Headache,
• Dizziness,
• Sleep problems (insomnia),
• Unpleasant skin odor,
• Vomiting, and
• Pain during sex

Serious side effects of Podofilox include:

• Hives,
• Difficulty breathing, and
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and
• Severe itching, burning, oozing, bleeding, or skin changes where the medicine is applied

Rare side effects of Podofilox include:

• none 

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

• Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
• Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
• Serious heart symptoms include fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out.

Adult dosage

Topical solution/gel

• 0.5%

Anogenital Warts

Adult dosage

• Apply with a cotton-tipped applicator (solution) or finger (gel) every 12 hours for 3 days then no treatment for 4 days
• May repeat in 1 week, cycle up to 4 times

Cautions

• Correct diagnosis of lesions to be treated essentially
• Intended for cutaneous use only
• Avoid contact with eyes; if contact with eyes occurs, patients should immediately flush their eyes with copious amounts of water and seek medical advice
• Product is flammable; keep away from open flame
• Data on the safe and effective use of this product for the treatment of warts occurring on mucous membranes of the genital area (including the urethra, rectum, and vagina), is not available
• Do not exceed the frequency of application, duration of usage, and method of application

• Use with caution if the benefits outweigh the risks during pregnancy.

  • Not known whether topically applied podofilox is distributed into human milk, with the potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants
