I have been on Miralax for 10 years. It has saved my life. It's gentle and it works every time.
Miralax did make BMs softer and more regular. But after taking it nightly for more than 6 months, I began to feel bloated and belly distended, too much gas! I also felt stool was backing up in my colon. All very counterproductive. I decided to quit it in favor of eating simple leafy salads with lunch and dinner every day, and I feel much better and with even better BMs each morning.
I have been on Miralax for 10 years. I don't think you could find a better product. It has saved my life.
I had an overall good experience with this before my first colonoscopy. Reading all of the horror stories got me on my nerves and worried about the prep process. I am happy to report that it turned out to be a very smooth process. I took 2 bottles 119g (unflavored) each with 2 bottles of Gatorade (split dose). As soon as I heard/felt any kind of stomach rumbling/churning, I head for the toilet. I had no nausea, no bad taste, no vomiting, I only had very mild cramping. The things that may have helped me was to prep before the prep: - Have light meals 5 to 7 days before the prep - Have a low fiber diet 5 to 7 days before the prep - Have plenty of fluids in the days leading to the prep day and during prep day - Try to have daily BM (don't strain) 5 to 7 days before prep day - the less you got in there, the less needs to come out - my apologies for the TMI. I hope this helps calms some nerves.
I'd like to know what is the potential side effects of over dosage? I was instructed to take 4 times the dosage, at one time, then 4 single dosages in a day. Repeat for a total of 2 days. I initially thought that was a mistake, so I did NOT do that. Saw the Dr. for a follow-up and was told that that was in fact the correct instructions. So, I followed instructions. During the last 2 single doses on the second day, I had a very had time holding them down. I was nauseated and had a terrible headache. I could not get out of bed, for 24 hrs., after that. It is now approx. 4 weeks since then and I have had reoccurring cramps and urgent BMs. I have a feeling that that the heavy dosage has causes some sort of IBS. I attempted to post this ontheir site and it would not be accepted. Wonder why?
After using daily for almost 6 months I began to get a rash and irritation around my anus. It is extremely tender and feels like it is raw. The only thing I can think of is that it's coming from this. Will stop using to see if it clears up.
I This stuff works great it takes a few days but it's not hard on your stomach.
I used miralax Gatorade for colonoscopy prep. If you like Gatorade, this won't be too bad, but I don't really like the taste of it, so it was not too pleasant to drink. Plus, it's a lot to drink. I am small, and I couldn't drink it all, but had a clear scope. It's a little better than the gallon of stuff you used to have to drink.
I am getting non formed stool like mush. So I stopped using for a couple days but then I’m constipated. I have taken it daily for 5 years
I have had constipation issues for years and have taken mirilax before. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t. A few months ago I took it and immediately afterwards I had water diarrhea for atleast 24 hours. Since I have taken this before i didn’t think it was from the medicine. I just thought it was coincidence I had a little stomach bug and also took the mirilax. Fast forward to yesterday I took mirilax and I immediately had diarrhea that progressively got worse throughout the day. I was severely nauseous and ended up vomiting. It’s been over 24 hours and I’m just finally starting to feel a little better. It can’t be coincidental twice in a row that this happened and it wasn’t the mirilax. I will never use this again.
I took the miralax packets for three days. That was 8 days ago and I’m having pretty bad cramping with really soft stool. It’s crazy! How is this stuff still in my system? 9 times today!
Thought it was the answer to lifelong constipation. Then saw the study showing over 50% increase in chance of developing dementia with regular use. Just google dementia and osmotic laxative. Comments: I called Miralax and no comment. I said they really need to address this study! Not sure what to do but I cannot take something that has that high of a chance of causing dementia.
At my internist's suggestion, I started taking Miralax nightly, just before bed, every night. That was seven years ago, when I turned age 60. It's been a Godsend. Before Miralax, I had four hemorrhoidectomies and never-ending constipation. That's with a good diet (vegetarian, lots of fiber, no alcohol or recreational drugs). My life has changed dramatically with Miralax. I have daily bowel movements, neither too hard nor too soft, zero constipation, zero diarrhea. I've seen medical studies that show daily use for extended periods causing no harm whatsoever. I'm sold.
I took this in the morning on an empty stomach. I had almost immediate nausea. I have been recovering from a GI illness, so I thought the nausea had just come back. I was doing much better the day before taking this, with no nausea, so the nausea being so bad again was surprising. I took zofran with no reliefof the nausea. My stomach would growl, but even sipping a nutrition drink made the nausea severe. I did have 2 bowel movements several hours after taking the Miralax, so that is the only positive. I developed lower back pain in the afternoon. It makes sense after reading similar reviews. I will not be using this again.
I have to take Miralax or I will go weeks without a bowel movement. However, over time, I have found that taking a capful mixed in liquid every 3 days works the best for me. A lot of these reviews are because people are taking too much too often. I found that will daily dosing, I would often have an “emergency “ bathroom trip and sometimes wasn’t quick enough. So after trial and error, found the right dose and frequency. I will say that this medication is not harsh on the body (no cramping, feeling like you will pass out, vomiting/nausea. It does give you more gas but I always think that is how you know it’s working and your intestines are “moving”. So for me, it’s the best medication out there for constipation. Lord knows exlax, ducolax, womens laxatives are sent from hell by the devil himself.
I am torn on this. I had another anal fissure and tried miralax as a stool softener for 4 days. It gave me tiny loose stools that passed with no pain which was great. Oddly enough I never had an urge to go though but just sat down and pushed and a little would come out at a time. The bad part is I have stomach pain, nausea, and horrible gas with bloating. Basically my butt feels better but the rest of me does not.
I am 55 I have had IBS over 30 years. When Marilax came available it was like a miracle. I have had the best experience, better than anything on the market. Thank you Marilax ??
Since I was a kid I have had chronic constipation. I am now on multiple medications that make it even worse. If I don’t take miralax every day I get severe symptoms. It helps me a lot and I have never experienced bad side effects
I had a appendix removal. Surgeon did not stop all the bleeding and sewed me up. I bled internally for two days and could have died. Was in hospital for 16 days total due to other complications and mistakes by hospital staff. I did not have a bowel movement for 10 DAYS while in hospital. I was not eating much initially, then started eating more. They were concerned and asked every day all day if I had a bowel movement. It took 3 days of standard dosing and fluids and I had THE LARGEST BOWEL movement I've ever had in my life. I was seriously impressive. I did not hurt, it just kept coming. This bring water to your fecal matter, thus enlarging it with more moisture. So your poo is bigger than it normally is. Anyway, I've been on it three weeks post surgery. Keeps me having one or two bowel movements a day. Quitting soon though and switching to fiber supplements, since I already eat a lot of fiber but that doesn't seem to do the trick, thus adding more fiber in a supplement. Good luck, don't be to scared of taking it, hasn't caused me any grief so far. Or none that I've noticed. 42 year old male, 177 pounds.

This product is very gentile to my body, no cramps, no upset stomach. Just a smooth experience.
