Dosage Forms and Strengths

Tablet

  • 126mg/67mg

Dosage Considerations – Should be Given as Follows:

Hypophosphatemia

  • Adults: K-Phos Neutral: 1-2 tablets orally every 4 hours
  • Children 4 years and older: K-Phos Neutral, 1 tablet orally every 6 hours;
  • Adults: Phos-NaK: 1 packet mixed with 75 mL water or juice
  • Children 4 years and older: Phos-NaK, 1 packet orally every 6 hours mixed with 75 mL water or juice
  • Children under 4 years: Safety and efficacy not established

Low Urinary Phosphate

  • Adults and children 4 years and older: 1-2 tablets orally every 6 hours
  • Children under 4 years: Safety and efficacy not established

Dosage Modifications

  • Renal impairment: Use with caution in patients with chronic renal disease or renal function impairment

Side effects of potassium phosphate/sodium acid phosphate include:

Warnings

  • This medication contains potassium phosphate/sodium acid phosphate. Do not take K-Phos M.F., K-Phos No. 2, K-Phos Neutral, Neutra-Phos, or Uro-KP Neutral if you are allergic to potassium phosphate/sodium acid phosphate or any ingredients contained in this drug.
  • Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.

Contraindications

  • Patients with infected phosphate stones
  • Severe renal impairment
  • High blood phosphates (hyperphosphatemia)
  • Addison disease
  • High blood potassium (hyperkalemia)
  • Infected urolithiasis
  • Struvite stone formation

Cautions

  • Use caution in cardiac disease, especially in digitalized patients, adrenal insufficiency, acute dehydration, renal disease, extensive tissue breakdown, as in severe burns, myotonia congenita, cirrhosis of the liver, edema, hypertension, hypoparathyroidism, acute pancreatitis, hepatic impairment, hypernatremia, metabolic alkalosis

Pregnancy and Lactation

  • Use potassium phosphate/sodium acid phosphate with caution during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Animal studies show risk and human studies are not available or neither animal nor human studies were done.
  • It is unknown if potassium phosphate/sodium acid phosphate is distributed in breast milk. Caution is advised while breastfeeding.
