The weight gain was no joke!! However, my fibromyalgia is more or less gone

Comment from: Lostboss 45-54 Transgender 2 to less than 5 years Caregiver Published: August 07

I have been on pregabalin for almost 2 years, at first it helped with the pain. They increased the dosage, I didn't realise it at first, I sure as shit didn't ask them to. It works for me to an extent, it helps with the pain somewhat, but I have gained almost 40 pounds since taken it, I exercise and watch what I eat. I can walk with out as much foot pain, but the weight gain is making it harder to walk. I've been looking into other medications that might help, but don't make a person gain weight. Seems like they all can. I'm coming to the decision to stop taking the medication and try just a simple diet change, more exercise in time. I'm at a loss. I don't like the side effects, the swelling in my feet and face. Makes me wonder how this medication is effecting my kidneys and liver etc... I don't have a backup set hanging up in the closet.

It caused my hands to shake uncontrollably and permanently. I view it as a toxic drug.

I've been taking 150mg 2x/day for over a year now. at first it made me feel drunk... but that subsided. I haven't experienced the weight gain that most people do. but there have been cognitive effects - no train of thought, can't multi-task, can't "find my words" during conversation. so people think I'm dingy lol. but it has helped my pain so much better than gabapentin, and the cognitive effects are less severe than with gabapentin. it's worth it!

I was on Gabapentin for 5 years after 5 complex spinal fusions with my leg being neurologically injured during one. After 5 years, it wasn't working much, and I was on the maximum dose. I was switched to Lyrica (with objections) as a family member really struggled on this medication. It worked fabulous! But I am also on the maximum dose: 300mg twice a day. I have to preface this with the fact that I have the worst insomnia of anyone I have met (12 years and going). Gabapentin didn't even make me tired as it makes most people exhausted. I was on 3600mg per day! Something happened when I switched. Everything makes me nauseated. My sleep got worse! But the thing that bothers me most is that I have no temperature control. I drip in sweat when the weather is the 60's. I had gotten back to playing tennis some but had to quit as I was always bent over out of breath and so hot. I've went so far as to have my hormones tested (I am only 38) and they are all normal. It seems to be all sensory issues. I've requested to be put back on Gabapentin but no one will put me back on it. Every doctor I have asked tells me that 49/50 people prefer Lyrica. Okay, but what if I am the 1/50. It's driving me to my breaking point as it is hard to live like this.

I began taking 75mg at night for about a month for severe neck pain. It didn't do anything for the pain, but it made me gain weight. The doctor raised the dose to 100mg 3x a day. Big change in everything. The pain level dropped to a 3/10 but I began feeling like I drank way too much coffee and was buzzing around like crazy. I stopped taking it after a week and got sick with cold sweats and chills and stayed on the couch for a few days. I've been off it now for a week and feel back to normal. I still have neck pain, but I'd rather have the pain than deal with that drug and the strange chemicals.

Diagnosed in 2015 with severe Neuropathy/lower extremities. Given 100 mg tabs of Lyrica 2 x's daily...NO HELP for pain...neuropathy worsened, and in 2017 I could no longer walk...Insurance & Dr.'s orders put me in an electric wheelchair...lost my state driver's license...PAIN continued to escalate...after 3+ years and continuing pain, Dr.'s had me taking 300 mg of Lyrica daily! STILL pain in the unbearable extreme! PLUS: I was now being treated with other drugs for symptoms CAUSED as a result of the Lyrica; severe constipation, needing laxatives DAILY sometimes no bowel movement for a week! Ended up with hearing aids BOTH EARS, from loss of hearing; again, Lyrica! Right away, diagnosed with cataracts; had removal surgery in both eyes....THEN, Macular degeneration/left eye; the doctors made me have VERY PAINFUL INJECTIONS in the BACK of the left eye, to 'slow down the degeneration'! The PAIN was so SEVERE, I REFUSED THEM AFTER 4 TIMES and pain SO BAD I sobbed EACH TIME! {All this time, STILL taking Lyrica} NEXT, I broke out with ITCHING all over my body; diagnosis? Psoriasis...My skin was ROUGH, BUMPY; and BLEEDING! Dr.'s said, "You have biological psoriasis...can't do anything accept treat it with...{another medication, that Insurance did not cover; costing me hundreds monthly!} Still, taking Lyrica for neuropathy, to no avail..., Still in an electric wheelchair! My hair began falling out EVERYWHERE on my body! My head itched so badly, I wanted to PULL IT OUT! I was getting 'crazy' trying to cope with all my issues, but this ITCHING just about DID IT FOR ME! One day, in desperation, I went 'online' and SEARCHED for hours, starting with "Pregabalin/Lyrica"; I printed out about 40 pages that EXPLAINED EVERY ISSUE I SUFFERED, and EVERY DRUG I had been prescribed! I {that day,} discovered that {#1}. Not one of my 'doctors' were willing to 'tell me the truths about my issues'...{All on the same page as to 'MEDICAL SECRECY' and practices!} My next visit to the dermatologist, I took the pages I'd printed out, with me, sand showed them to him, asking WHY I was being SLOWLY MURDERED with drugs for all my issues, individually, when FACT IS; ALL my medical issues are a DIRECT RESULT of taking 300 mg tabs 2 x's daily for pain that was worsening daily, and those issues were escalating also...I had reached a level of certain DEATH, {I already had COPD and needed 2% oxygen 24l7! Pregabalin made it WORSEN, while causing ALL my added issues! That 'doctor 'looked at me and said, "This information is for DOCTORS! Where did you get it"? I tried quitting Lyrica COLD-TURKEY; but of course, that's IMPOSSIBLE! It's worse than quitting HEROIN COLD-TURKEY! So, I went back and told the Dermatologist, "If you don't wean me OFF this LYRICA starting NOW, I'll see y'all in a court of LAW for trying to KILL ME! It took the 'doc' and me 1 & 1/2 years to finaslly get down to 25 mg per day, and I QUIT Lyrica completely. However, I still suffered from every other issue it caused me, medically... When in 2021 I relocated, to a different state the doctors began HEALING ME! I had neurosurgery, and now, maybe in 1 more year, will be walking again; BUT; I have a heart condition, also a result of Lyrica, called A-fib...It happened one time ONLY, but I have heart medication now. The macular degeneration is haulted; not cured but not getting worse. I have hearing aids, cannot reverse ear damage. When I last saw the doctors in my previous state, I was told, "Your body is SHUTTING DOWN". I said, "It's because of LYRICA"! {no comment response!} Well, today, in 2024, I'm still ALIVE. My current physicians as a TEAM, are working on a possible 'recovery' enough for my system so I can, at least, finish this 'JOURNEY' set before me! I think that Lyrica/Pregabalin, was put on the list of acceptable drugs NOT TO HELP, but to KILL! It even escalates diabetes, and pulmonary & HEART DISEASE! PEOPLE-BEWARE! My hair is grown back, my 'rough & bumpy is now GONE, all I hav

My 86 year old stepfather was prescribed this for his ongoing back pain. 2 of these pills sent him to hospital feeling dizzy unable to speak properly and tearful. Bloody terrible.

I’ve been on Lyrica for a month and a half now for severe nerve damage and adhesions and my liver attaching to my abdominal wall and adhesions because of the medical glue they use after removing a large part of the liver. After around four days of taking 2x 75mg a day, my severe abdominal pain had reduced by around 50% I was over the moon! The negative part is the side effects! I am dizzy, off balance, short term memory is shocking, logic is shocking eyes seem to just bob around and feel squint, my legs feel shaky and weak to the point I can hardly get up 10 stairs and feel like I’ll fall over, dry mouth, the jitters, constipation, little appetite, and speak a bit slurry and stupidly and can’t keep up with conversations easily. Those side effects lessened after around 3 weeks until….. I missed one dose one morning!! Well..all those symptoms came back double strong including my neuropathy pain in the abdomen!! It’s Monday and I’m still the same and I missed the dose on Saturday morning. I’d still take this drug for the pain relief as it is a game changer for chronic daily nerve pain!

This has been the worst experience with a drug I ever had. It was prescribed and given for perioperative pain ( a complex multi level spinal fusion) without my knowledge or consent. After surgery it was continued. This drug completely affected my ability to think in a severe way. It disturbed my mood- made me irritable, fearful, upset, etc. After I was discharged I developed terrible leg edema, gained 10 lbs in a week, had auditory hallucinations, and intrusive suicide ideation whe i had absolutely no depression or any mental health issues prior to taking it. All these symptoms stopped when the drug was stopped. This is a terrible drug and should be used with extreme caution if at all!,,,

Doesn’t help increasing dose and after reading the side effects I am going to talk to my doctor about weaning me off of it.

I was misdiagnosed with having a stroke.. after having two MRI's and see several neurologist's and a neurosurgeon (who was the best doctor I ever had) it was determined I Cervical Stenosis and vertebrae had damaged nerves and muscles in my neck. I was to PT and OT 2xweek for 6 months and then 1x week after. I had continued pain in my neck and shoulders. I was prescribed Pregabalin. 75mg caps 2x day. I didn't feel any relief for the first 2 weeks, but after that I could move my head without pain, and was finally sleeping through the night. Have had some dizziness, minor headaches and a little brain fog at times. My dosage now is 1x 75mg daily and I am almost pain free, with improved range of motion.

Pain management doctor in the Philippines prescribed 75mg 2x daily, with Tramadol/Paracetamol 3x daily for my spine damage. He also prescribed Etoricoxib 120mg 2x daily for the degenerative spine disease. Since Etoricoxib hasn't been approved in the USA yet, a doctor here ignored that condition, cancelled the Tramadol (just because, I suppose), and changed the Pregabalin to 100mg 2x daily. My overall pain level is higher, I have difficulty sleeping (must constantly move side-to-side), and I have increased appetite/weight gain. When I return to the islands, will visit the doctor and revert to previous treatments.

I've taken lyrica for about six months now, and I guess it does what it says it does.[ I'm a fully vented quadriplegic]. I don't want to be taking anything but having nerve pain this pill kind of took the edge off, I'm taking a minimal dose, [75mg x2 day]. but I think it has affected my cognitive abilities, I feel I'm not as sharp. Also, I find my eyesight not as good as it used to be, not that it's gotten worse but I have trouble focussing. I still have nerve pain, and it's always there, I mean I noticed the pain wasn't as bad for a few weeks after I started taking it, but I still have pain now and I don't know if I should increase the dose or just get off it.

I currently take 200mg 3x daily and this medication makes my nerve pain tolerable everyday. Before I started taking it my legs and feet hurt so bad I could barely move. It felt like I was walking on burning needles and had electrical shocks shooting down my legs. Now, on my current dosage most days I don’t feel any nerve pain at all and on the days I do feel it it’s probably a 3/10 instead of a 10/10 on the pain scale. The only side effect that I still have from being on it is the increased appetite which causes some weight gain issues. The “drunk” feeling most people describe as a side effect only lasted about a month or so after I started taking it and after dosage increases.

It's my second time trying this medication. I didn't continue the first time because of side effects. I was taking 100mg 2x day. Right from the start. Way too much. But the pain did go away. This second time around I started at 25mg 2x daily and gradually upped 25 MG daily every week. I'm now at 50 2x daily. Pain is lesser and no side effects. I m finding that it is helping with my mental state. I realize that I had anxiety.

Stopped this medication after a month and a half because it was causing severe suicidal ideation, anxiety, and dissociation. It felt like I was asleep for weeks at a time. I was grumpy, miserable, and starving the entire time I was on it.

Comment from: KC 45-54 Transgender 6 months to less than 1 year Caregiver Published: April 21

I initially started on 100 mg/day for nerve pain. It seemed to help, but no drastic change. Long story short--ended up trying a high dose (500 mg/day) for seizure control. I have had chronic migraines since I was 5 years old, almost daily at times. Maxalt was a game changer for me-- the first medicine to actually help (taking several times per week). Anyway, since I have been on the 500mg of Lyrica, my migraines have all but disappeared. I am shocked that I hadn't heard other stories.(P.S. I am a pharmacist. ) Ohhhhh, but the weight gain is no joke- I gained 20 pounds in 2 months. I have never struggled with my weight.
