29 y.o. female, 1 child. Dealing with subclinical hyperthyroidism for about 5 years now. TSH levels slightly low, T3 and T4 normal. Originally was on methimazole but since I recently have started trying to have a baby, no one will put me back on it. I was prescribed ptu this week, 6 pills a day (2 every 8 hours). I took my first full dose yesterday and immediately was hit with the nastiest taste I have ever had in my life. This morning my urine smelled like death. Not sure if this is normal, I don't have liver problems (to my knowledge) but I don't want to develop them from taking this.

At first I had no side effects my doctor let me take this medicine for over a year. Did not explain the side effects did not tell me anything now I’m having sweats panicking hardest racing can’t taste my food. This is a horrible medicine. Please do not take this medication out of nowhere headaches anxiety is horrible itching hives don’t take it. Why would you leave me on a medication that could potentially mess with my liver and all my other organs. I will never take anything else from them prescribe like this. I’m going back to supplements.

When I reacted really bad to neo mercazole they gave me this. I got horrible joint pain in my knees and my lower back started hurting. I got deep painful zits on my back so I couldn't sleep on my back. When my x boyfriend said are you beginning to go bold on the top of my head, I quit them right there and then. I found out that I really notice when I start to go hyper, so I take a pill every other day for a week and it keeps me on normal levels for quite some time. Before it starts to rise again and I do another week. That doesn't give me sideeffects and it works for my body. But the taste I get about 2-4min after taking them? It's foul and aweful. Lasts for about 15 min..

I take this for Graves hyperthyroidism. I will discontinue as soon as I see my doctor. This medicine causes stomach problems, itchiness, dry eyes, can’t taste my food, brain fog, tinnitus and nausea. I think I will go back to taking supplements. Why can’t they put this in a capsule? It taste horrible.

This medication killed my sisters liver back in 2007. She was only 17 years old. Wasn’t on the medication for very long either. RIP.

I get incredibly hot but it isn't a fever. Horrible headaches. Fatigue that interferes with my daily life. Nausea when I take it with or without food and intolerance of heat

I went from hypo, to hyper tried all other med, they made me tired, nausea, and my heart was still racing. Tried this med 4days ago 50mg only once a day it helped immediately. The bitter taste is horrible, but I learned some tricks due to this site.

Just started taking propylthiouracil 100mg two times daily. Had to get off of Methimazole 10mg once a day due to an allergic reaction. Hope this works well.

Medicine worked and helped my thyroid normalize again, but I developed bad hives which was embarrassing for awhile, so I didn't give it 5-stars.

I have been on this medicine for 4 days. I was previously taking Methimazole and was happy with how I was responding but had issues with itching so dr. put me on this instead. I have experienced terrible headaches, lethargy, dizzy, nausea and just feel plain awful.

To get rid of taste, take sip of water first ,THEN swallow pill very quickly. Helped me with the metal taste.

Drug brings up my TSH levels at 200mg a day. However, it gave me scalp pharosis and skin rash. I am thinking of stopping. I'd rather die of a heart attack than liver failure (this is a terrible way to die, I've seen it).

I have been on this medicine for just over a month now and it is not very tasty. Similiar to when you swallow real aspirin, but it does go away after 20 minutes or so. But what I don't like is the rapid heartbeat (sometimes feels like its going to leap outta my chest)and trouble breathing. When I called my endo doc she said that the medicine has nothing to do with those symptoms. Well, I didn't have these issues before taking the drug, so why am I experiencing these issues now? It also wrecks havoc on my sugar levels and they said nothing about that, from the doc or even on WebMd so I am not sure why it is effecting mine? Has anyone else had any of these problems as well?
