Regadenoson

Regadenoson is given in preparation for a radiologic (x-ray) examination of blood flow through the heart to test for coronary artery disease.

Common side effects of Regadenoson include:

• trouble breathing.
• headache, dizziness.
• chest pain or discomfort.
• nausea; or
• flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling).

Serious side effects of Regadenoson include:

• hives. 
• difficulty breathing. 
• swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
• severe dizziness, fast heartbeats, and warmth or a tingly feeling.
• wheezing, chest tightness, trouble breathing.
• weak or shallow breathing.
• chest pain or pressure, pain spreading to your jaw or shoulder.
• a seizure.
• low blood pressure--a light-headed feeling.
• high blood pressure--a severe headache or pounding in the neck or ears.
• signs of a stroke--sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body), severe headache, slurred speech, balance problems.

Rare side effects of Regadenoson include:

• none

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

• Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
• Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
• Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out.

• Intravenous: 0.4 mg as a single dose.

• Regadenoson has severe interactions with no other drugs.
• Regadenoson has serious interactions with the following drugs:
  • caffeine
  • dipyridamole
  • theophylline
• Regadenoson has moderate interactions with no other drugs.
• Regadenoson has minor interactions with no other drugs.

Contraindications

• Allergic to regadenoson
• 2nd or 3rd degree AV block; or
• "Sick sinus syndrome" (unless you have a pacemaker).

Cautions

• Receiving regadenoson may increase your risk of having abnormal heartbeats, breathing problems, heart attack, stroke, or cardiac arrest. Talk to your doctor about your specific risk.
• Avoid drinking coffee or other beverages with caffeine for at least 12 hours before your stress test.

Pregnancy and Lactation

• It is not known whether regadenoson will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant.
• Lactation
  • Do not breastfeed within 10 hours after receiving regadenoson. If you use a breast pump during this time, throw out any milk you collect. Do not feed it to your baby.
