What Are Side Effects Associated with Using Sodium Lactate?
Common side effects of Sodium Lactate include:
- mood changes,
- confusion,
- muscle pain or weakness,
- a heartbeat that does not feel normal,
- dizziness or passing out,
- fast heartbeat,
- thirst,
- seizures,
- feeling very tired or weak,
- not hungry,
- dry eyes, or very bad upset stomach
Serious side effects of Sodium Lactate include:
- rash.
- hives.
- itching
- swollen
- blistered, or
- peeling skin with or without fever.
- wheezing.
- tightness in the chest or throat.
- trouble breathing
- unusual hoarseness.
- swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Rare side effects of Sodium Lactate include:
- none
Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:
- Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
- Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
- Serious heart symptoms include fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheartedness, or passing out.

Contraindications
- Not for lactic acidosis
- Hypernatremia or fluid retention
- CHF, shock, respiratory alkalosis, or other conditions that increase the Lactate

Cautions
- Significant hypokalemia may occur
- No advantage over sodium bicarbonate and is contraindicated in the treatment of lactic acidosis
- Avoid rapid administration and overdosage
- Excess administration may result in metabolic alkalosis
- Severe renal impairment, edema with sodium retention
- Not for correcting severe acidotic states
