What Is Sulconazole and How Does It Work?

Sulconazole is a prescription medication used for the treatment of skin infections such as athlete's foot (cream only), jock itch, and ringworm.

What Are Side Effects Associated with Using Sulconazole?

Common side effects of Sulconazole include:

  • skin burning
  • stinging
  • swelling
  • irritation
  • redness
  • pimple-like bumps
  • dryness
  • tenderness
  • flaking of the treated skin

Serious side effects of Sulconazole include:

  • hives
  • itching
  • rash
  • trouble breathing
  • chest pain or tightness in the chest
  • swelling of the lips, tongue, and throat
  • blistering
  • oozing
  • open sores

Rare side effects of Sulconazole include:

  • none

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

  • Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, coordination loss, unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
  • Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
  • Serious heart symptoms include fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out.

What Are the Dosages of Sulconazole?

Adult dosage

Cream/topical solution

  • 1%

Tinea infection

Adult dosage

  • Tinea corporis, cruris, versicolor: apply cream or solution once a day at bedtime or two times a day for 3 weeks
  • Tinea pedis: Apply the cream once a day at bedtime or two times a day for 3 to 4 weeks
