least effective med for insomnia in my experience, and most expensive by far. and with lots of stupid, wasteful packaging.

This medication did not work for me at all kept me up all night Started on 10mg and it was like not letting me sleep at all.

I started with 10 mg and I felt that it didn't help at all was then prescribed 15 mg I thought it might be helping a little bit but started to notice shoulder muscle and joint pain it got worse so I discontinued did experience some vivid dreams also

Worked for me from the start; I always wake up 3-4 times during the night and Belsomra helps me go back to sleep; stops my mind from racing. I started with 20 mg and had some daytime drowsiness. Switched to 15 mg and smooth sailing since. I have been using it for about 15 months. It works very well for me. OTOH, my wife tried one and she had a bad night and no help. So, your "mileage may vary."

I have had trouble sleeping for years, mostly due to anxiety. I have tried many options, both prescription and otc. This works really well for me. I feel like it helps me feel like I’m falling asleep naturally vs. being drugged up, which I like. I was only averaging about 3-4 hours of sleep a night and now I’m up to 7-8 hours. I’m on 15mg and usually take this about 30 mins- 1 hr before bed. I do have some occasional daytime sleepiness, but way better than exhausted & tired 24/7!!

I had a mild TBI which caused insomnia. My provider put me on a couple of sleep medication - alternating so as to not cause dependency. I tried the Belsomra for 2+ weeks. Horrible, horrible medication. My sleep was chaotic and full of weird dreams. But worse, it made me insanely dizzy the next day - think zombie like. I will never take it again.

Did nothing for me. It was really unclear in the instructions if it was supposed to be taken daily or as-needed. I asked my prescribing MD and he said as needed. Took 10mg the first 2 nights and it literally did nothing. So I increased to 20mg and also nothing. It was expensive too! I actually looked up some research about this drug and apparently, the FDA approved it despite the fact that clinical trials showed effectiveness at much higher doses but there were too many side effects. The drug co decided to just lower the dose to obtain approval but there is no evidence that it is any better than placebo at the doses it is now given. waste of money. Rozerem is next on the trial list.

Absolutely the worst experience!! Does not work for me - actually kept me awake all night long with nausea, hot flashes and headache. I had less sleep if that’s even possible so back to Seroquel sigh….

I am rating low on ease of use because I'm furious at the packaging. I called to complain that every 30 days supply comes in not one but THREE large plastic containers, each holding a blister pack. I called the company to complain, and they said the pharmacy could supply the pills in a bottle. But the pharmacy can only get them in the plastic containers. PLEASE, folks, wake up about all the plastic. The earth doesn't need it, and I certainly don't either.

I struggled with insomnia for 15 years and this medication changed my life. It doesn't knock you out, you fall asleep and stay asleep. 5mgs and it stops my active brain, so that I can sleep. I have tried everything over the years. I hope Belsomra works for you. Also give it time it gets better as you go. Good luck!

I still have sleep problems I don't see why it's so expensive and it has done anything for my problem !!

This medication for me is extremely effective. I can take maybe one fifth of a pill and I fall asleep for almost 8 hours without waking at all. A whole pill is too much and sends me to sleep for over 12 hours. Vivid dreams but interesting.

Terrible nightmares. Even when I tried to wake up and walk around, it returned me back to the same nightmares. Horrible feeling after waking up. Not interested in continuing the course.

Weaned off Ambien because it really screws with your mind and it was no longer working after 20 years. Chronic insomnia. Started Belsomra at 10 mg and it helped but not enough. I'm at 15 mg and get a good night's sleep. I do wake up every couple of hours but I still fall right back to sleep. I'm very happy with this medicine and hope I can take it for the rest of my life. It is extremely expensive though.

I had so much hope for this medication, I also jumped through hoops with insurance to be able to afford it. Last night was such a scary and sad experience. It gave me a nightmare that I was too upset to tell my husband about, and I did not sleep at all! I have an upset stomach, and cried from whatever crazy thing it did to me. Never again.

Belsomra keeps me wide awake all night and causes restless legs and tossing and turning. This is my 5th night on Belsomra and it will be my last. $450 is outrageous!

I was tried on this medication for little over a month. It wasn't effective at all. Very costly. Maybe it might help others.

Comment from: Thomas 65-74 Transgender less than 1 month Caregiver Published: May 17

This medication has not worked for me. I don't even feel sleepy after a half hour passes. I feel nothing. I felt nothing. The medication called Belsomra is a placebo? I did feel woozy one am, after picking something off of the floor, and that is the only thing I've felt on this so called insomnia medication.

Comment from: Fgray007 25-34 Transgender 1 to 6 months Caregiver Published: May 07

I was in Belsomra briefly. Maybe a month? No other medication. No pregnancy. I was on nexplanon and didn't have partners. I began to lactate from both breasts. I'm a mother of multiple who has breastfed. I was far past it and began producing milk. And in one breast we had milk and blood. After a series of tests thr only possibility was determined to be a rare side effect of belsomra.

Comment from: Jeanette 55-64 Transgender less than 1 month Caregiver Published: April 28

The 30 day prescription cost is $558.00 for Belsomra. I take 20mg, 30 minutes before bedtime. So far, zero effectiveness in helping my insomnia. I'm notifying Medicare Guidelines as this medication is equivalent to a placebo. Outrageous price w Zero effectiveness ??
