Tea Tree Oil

• Tea tree oil is an herbal preparation used to treat acne, athlete's foot, ear infections, insect bites/stings, lice, local antiseptic, onychomycosis, ringworm, scabies, and skin surface infections.
• Tea tree oil is available under the following different brands and other names: Australian tea tree oil, cymeme, melaleuca alternifolia, Melaleuca oil, and oil of melaleuca.
• Tea tree oil is possibly effective for acne, fungal skin infections, and onychomycosis.

Dosages of Tea Tree Oil

Acne

• Apply 5% gel topically daily

Onychomycosis

• Apply 100% solution topically twice daily for 6 months

Tinea pedis

• Apply 10% cream topically twice daily for 1 month OR
• 25-50% solution applied twice daily for 1 month

Dosage Considerations -- Should Be Given As Follows:

• There are no dosage considerations for the use of tea tree oil.

Side effects of tea tree oil include:

• Allergic contact eczema
• Allergic contact dermatitis
• Local irritation/inflammation
• Damage to the inner ear (ototoxicity, when used to treat ear infection)

• Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
