Travoprost Ophthalmic

Travoprost Ophthalmic is a prescription medication used to treat certain types of glaucoma and other causes of high pressure inside the eye.

Common side effects of Travoprost Ophthalmic include:

• pain, itching, or redness of the eyes.
• puffy eyelids; or
• blurred vision.

Serious side effects of Travoprost Ophthalmic include:

• hives. 
• difficult breathing. 
• swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
• eye swelling, redness, severe discomfort, crusting or drainage (may be signs of infection);
• red, swollen, or itchy eyelids.
• increased sensitivity to light.
• vision changes; or
• severe burning, stinging, or irritation after using this medicine.

Rare side effects of Travoprost Ophthalmic include:

• none

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

• Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
• Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
• Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out.

Adult dosage

Ophthalmic solution

• 0.004% (0.04 mg/mL)

Ocular hypertension/glaucoma (open angle): 

Adult dosage

• Ophthalmic: Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening; do not exceed once-daily dosing (may decrease intraocular pressure-lowering effect).

If your medical doctor is using this medicine to treat your pain, your doctor or pharmacist may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor, health care provider, or pharmacist first.

• Travoprost Ophthalmic have severe interactions with no other drugs.
• Travoprost Ophthalmic has serious interactions with the following drugs:
  • bimatoprost
  • latanoprost
  • latanoprostene bunod Ophthalmic
  • tafluprost
• Travoprost Ophthalmic has moderate interactions with at least 31 other drugs.
• Travoprost Ophthalmic has minor interactions with no other drugs.

Cautions

• Travoprost Ophthalmic may cause a gradual change in the color of your eyes or eyelids and lashes, usually an increase in brown pigment. You may also notice increased growth or thickness of your eyelashes. These changes occur slowly and you may not notice them for months or years. Color changes may be permanent even after your treatment ends, and may occur only in the eye being treated. This could result in a cosmetic difference in eye or eyelash color from one eye to the other.
• Travoprost Ophthalmic is not approved for use by anyone younger than 16 years old.
• If you need surgery (including eye surgery), tell the surgeon ahead of time that you are using travoprost Ophthalmic. You may need to stop using the medicine for a short time.
• Do not use other eye medications unless your doctor tells you to.

Pregnancy and Lactation

• It is not known whether travoprost Ophthalmic will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
• Lactation
  • It is not known whether travoprost Ophthalmic passes into breast milk or if it could affect the nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
  • Developmental and health benefits of breastfeeding should be considered along with mother’s clinical need for therapy and any potential adverse effects on breast-fed child
