Triamcinolone Acetonide-Nystatin

Triamcinolone Acetonide-Nystatin is a combination medication used to treat the symptoms of fungal or yeast infections on the skin (Cutaneous Candidiasis). 

• Triamcinolone Acetonide-Nystatin is available under the following different brand names: MyCo-Triacet II, Mycology II, Mycogen II, Mytrex, Tri-Statin II

Common side effects of Triamcinolone Acetonide-Nystatin include:

• Increased hair growth,
• Burning or itching of treated skin,
• Skin dryness or irritation,
• Acne,
• Skin rash,
• Redness or crusting around your hair follicles,
• Lightened color of treated skin,
• Stretch marks, and
• White or "pruned" appearance of the skin (caused by leaving wound dressings on for long periods) 

Serious side effects of Triamcinolone Acetonide-Nystatin include:

• Blurred vision,
• Tunnel vision,
• Eye pain,
• Seeing halos around lights,
• Nausea,
• Vomiting,
• Loss of appetite,
• Weight gain or loss,
• Muscle weakness,
• Worsening tiredness,
• Lightheadedness,
• Anxiety,
• Depression,
• Irritability,
• Slow wound healing,
• Severe skin irritation where the medication was applied, and
• Signs of skin infection (swelling, redness, warmth, oozing) 

Rare side effects of Triamcinolone Acetonide-Nystatin include:

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

• Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
• Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
• Serious heart symptoms include fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out.

• Apply cream/ointment two times a day; discontinue therapy when the infection is under control or if symptoms persist for above 25 days

  • allogeneic cultured keratinocytes/fibroblasts in bovine collagen
  • mifepristone
• Triamcinolone Acetonide-Nystatin has serious interactions with the following drugs:
  • Saccharomyces boulardii
  • adenovirus types 4 and 7 live, oral
• Triamcinolone Acetonide-Nystatin has moderate interactions with at least 187 other drugs.
• Triamcinolone Acetonide-Nystatin has minor interactions with at least 49 other drugs.

Cautions

• For topical use only
• Not for ophthalmic use
• Avoid contact with eyes
• Patient should report any signs of adverse reactions
• Systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids has produced reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression, manifestations of Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia, and glucosuria in some patients
• Conditions that augment systemic absorption include the application of the more potent steroids, use over large surface areas, prolonged use, and the addition of occlusive dressings
• Patients receiving a large dose of any potent topical steroid applied to a large surface area should be evaluated periodically for evidence of HPA axis suppression by using urinary-free cortisol and ACTH stimulation tests, and for impairment of thermal homeostasis; if HPA axis suppression or elevation of body temperature occurs, attempt to withdraw the drug, reduce the frequency of application, or substitute for less potent steroid
• Recovery of HPA axis function and thermal homeostasis are generally prompt and complete upon discontinuation of the drug; infrequently, signs and symptoms of steroid withdrawal may occur, requiring supplemental systemic corticosteroids
• Children may absorb proportionally larger amounts of topical corticosteroids and thus may be more susceptible to systemic toxicity
• If irritation or hypersensitivity develops with a combination of nystatin and triamcinolone acetonide, discontinue treatment and institute appropriate therapy
