Fluticasone topical

Fluticasone topical is a prescription steroid medication used to treat inflammation and itching caused by eczema or skin conditions that respond to steroid medication

• Fluticasone inhalation is available under various brand names: Beser, Cutivate

Common side effects of Fluticasone topical include:

• skin redness, itching, or rash;
• burning or stinging of treated skin;
• increased hair growth; or
• feeling light-headed.

Serious side effects of Fluticasone topical include:

• hives,
• difficulty breathing,
• swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat,
• skin pain, tenderness, or swelling;
• any wound that will not heal;
• severe skin irritation after using the medicine; or
• possible signs of absorbing this medicine through your skin--weight gain (especially in your face or your upper back and torso), thinning or discolored skin, increased body hair, muscle weakness, nausea, diarrhea, tiredness, mood changes, menstrual changes, sexual changes.

Rare side effects of Fluticasone topical include:

• none

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

• Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors;
• Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
• Serious heart symptoms include fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in the chest; shortness of breath; sudden dizziness, lightheartedness, or passing out.

Atopic Dermatitis

Adult dosage

• Cream/lotion: Apply every day or every 12 hours; reassess diagnosis if no improvements within 2 weeks.

Pediatric dosage

• Cream
  • Aged below 3 months: Safety & efficacy not established
  • Aged above 3 months: As adults; apply cream/lotion sparingly every day or every 12 hours
• Lotion
  • Aged below a year: Safety & efficacy not established
  • Aged above a year: As adults; apply sparingly every day

Corticosteroid-responsive Dermatoses

Adult dosage

• Apply every day or every 12 hours; reassess diagnosis if no improvements within 2 weeks.

Cautions

• Steroid medicines can increase the glucose (sugar) levels in your blood or urine. Tell your doctor if you have diabetes.
• Beser lotion should not be used on a child younger than 3 months old. Cultivate ointment is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.
• Do not use fluticasone topical on any child without a doctor's advice. Children can absorb larger amounts of this medication through the skin and may be more likely to have side effects.
• Avoid use in patients who have experienced recent nasal ulcerations, nasal surgery, or nasal trauma

Pregnancy & Lactation

• It is not known whether this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant.

Lactation

• It may not be safe to breastfeed while using this medicine. Ask your doctor about any risks.
