What Is Javadin?
Javadin (clonidine hydrochloride) is a central alpha-2 adrenergic agonist, indicated for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) in adult patients to lower blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure has been shown to reduce the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events, primarily strokes and heart attacks (myocardial infarctions).
What Are Side Effects of Javadin?
Side effects of Javadin include:
- dry mouth,
- drowsiness,
- dizziness,
- constipation, and
- sedation.
Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:
- Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
- Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in your chest; shortness of breath; and sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out;
- Severe headache,confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors.

Dosage for Javadin
The initial dosage of Javadin is 0.1 mg orally twice daily with or without food (morning and bedtime).
Titrate the dose effects of Javadin in increments of 0.1 mg per day at weekly intervals, if necessary, until the desired response is achieved.
The therapeutic doses effects of Javadin most commonly used have ranged from 0.2 mg to 0.6 mg per day, given in divided doses.
Javadin In Children
Safety and effectiveness of Javadin in pediatric patients have not been established.
What Drugs, Substances, or Supplements Interact with Javadin?
Javadin may interact with other medicines such as:
- antihypertensive drugs,
- CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, barbiturates, or other sedating drugs),
- tricyclic antidepressants,
- neuroleptics, and
- drugs known to affect sinus node function or AV nodal conduction (e.g., digitalis, calcium channel blocker, and beta-blockers).
Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use.
Javadin During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using Javadin; Prolonged experience with clonidine over several decades have not identified a drug associated risk of major birth defects, miscarriage, adverse maternal or fetal outcomes. Javadin passes into breast milk. If an infant is exposed to clonidine hydrochloride through breast milk, monitor for symptoms of hypotension and bradycardia, such as sedation, lethargy, tachypnea and poor feeding. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
