What Is Ulspira?

Ulspira (nitric oxide for inhalation) is a vasodilator indicated to improve oxygenation and reduce the need for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in term and near-term (greater than 34 weeks’ gestation) neonates with hypoxic respiratory failure associated with clinical or echocardiographic evidence of pulmonary hypertension in conjunction with ventilatory support and other appropriate agents.

What Are Side Effects of Ulspira?

Side effects of Ulspira include:

  • low blood pressure (hypotension),
  • low blood oxygen (hypoxemia), and
  • worsening heart failure.

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

  • Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision,tunnel vision,eye painor swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
  • Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in your chest; shortness of breath; and sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out;
  • Severe headache,confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors.

Dosage for Ulspira

The recommended dose of Ulspira is 20 ppm, maintained for up to 14 days or until the underlying oxygen desaturation has resolved.

Ulspira In Children

The safety and efficacy of Ulspira for inhalation has been demonstrated in term and near-term neonates with hypoxic respiratory failure associated with evidence of pulmonary hypertension.
